World Telehealth Initiative's program in Guatemala at Hospital Westmont Bethel kicked off this month with its first #telehealth session. A podiatrist in South Carolina led an educational session focused on wound care for diabetic foot infections.?? Over 25% of Guatemala’s indigenous population is affected by diabetes or pre-diabetes. Without treatment, diabetic foot wounds often lead to amputation—a limb is amputated every 30 seconds around the world due to diabetes, but 85% of these amputations are preventable. ??Doctors in Guatemala expanded their knowledge and skills to manage wounds, prevent infections, and avoid amputations, to ensure better long-term outcomes for diabetes patients.?? ??Explore more about our new program in Guatemala: https://lnkd.in/gRacxkKs #globalhealth #diabetes #telemedicine
