Nearly 40% of food in America goes uneaten, costing the average household about $1500 each year. Food waste also contributes 4X the emissions of global airlines. Changing global food systems seems daunting, but food waste is one area where individuals and families have a lot of control since almost half of all food waste comes from the home. WWF works with famers, retailers, manufacturers, governments and other partners to tackle the other half. But there is a lot that we can do as individuals to minimize the amount of food wasted each day. I love to cook. And my family’s approach to food waste is coming with creative ways to use the last dregs of the produce drawer. That’s how I came up with “Roasted Lemon Mushoom Broccoli Kale” Pasta, which my family told me (at least to my face) they loved. More about food waste and hidden costs: https://lnkd.in/dGKyibhm

For years, seaweed farming has been an underrated nature-based solution. It requires no land, no freshwater, and no fertilizers – yet it can absorb carbon, support marine biodiversity, and create sustainable jobs in coastal communities. Four years ago, the Bezos Earth Fund made a bold bet on seaweed through a grant to World Wildlife Fund. The goal? To accelerate seaweed farming as a tool for climate resilience and food security. The results speak for themselves: ?? Seaweed harvests in key regions have grown 246%, far outpacing the global average. ?? 300+ new farms are in development, and new strains will double farm yields. ?? Governments, investors, and local communities are stepping up – clearing regulatory hurdles and unlocking new market opportunities. But there’s a bigger question: Can we scale this responsibly? Right now, seaweed farming is still only widely practiced in eight countries. To reach its full potential, we need stronger supply chains, more investment in processing technology, and policies that ensure sustainable expansion. If we get this right, seaweed can be a cornerstone of a regenerative blue economy.

Trees make me hopeful—how something so enormous and solid emerges from a tiny seed. I find strength in their determination to grow and thrive. I find inspiration to keep pushing and innovating to conserve our world’s most important forests. This #InternationalDayofForests, at a time when everything can seem overwhelming, I’m reflecting on the positive effects forests have on our mental health. There’s a reason why we feel more at peace among the trees, which WWF detailed in The Vitality of Forests report. A common way that scientists evaluate stress is by measuring a hormone called cortisol, and several studies have demonstrated that cortisol reached considerably lower values in forest settings. Those who spent time in a forest also reported more positive feelings and fewer negative feelings. Even just 15 minutes in a forest lowered measures of stress—and that’s whether someone was walking or even just sitting in the forest. Amazing. I hope you can find some time to stroll through a forest or park near you, whether it’s taking a moment to simply breathe or reflect on the beauty and resilience of trees. If we protect them, if we take care of them, they will take care of us. ???? A rare and breathtaking sight in the mountains of Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan: four majestic snow leopards together in one frame! ?? These elusive creatures are not only a symbol of the wild beauty that graces our planet, but also serve as a keystone species in their high-altitude habitats, maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. As an endangered species, they face numerous threats—from habitat loss to poaching. It's crucial that we work together to protect and conserve these incredible big cats, ensuring future generations can witness their splendor in the wild. Together, we can safeguard the future of our planet’s most precious biodiversity. #ConserveWildlife #SaveSnowLeopards #GilgitBaltistan #Pakistan Video credits: Sakhawat Ali, Wildlife Watcher and Dr Zakir Hussain, Chief Conservator Parks and Wildlife of the Forest, Wildlife and Environment Department, Government of Gilgit-Baltistan

Women play a critical role at the intersection of development and conservation. I’ve had the privilege to witness just how powerful they become as agents of change when that role is acknowledged, celebrated, and invested in. And it’s not just women who benefit. It’s their families, their communities, local wildlife, and the natural resources that make it possible to live healthy lives. Sharing some reflections on the The CARE-WWF Alliance's Sowing Change project from my recent visit to Kenya and how women’s leadership at all levels is delivering benefits people and nature: https://lnkd.in/ejd82gfG
