At WSW, we firmly believe in empowering the civic scientist. These are the students and professionals who will redefine STEM professions and bridge the gap between science and the public. No longer will scientists, engineers, and doctors work on a separate sphere from the public. We strive to: Inspire future scientists and engineers. We are targeting 2,000 K-12 students in the Houston area for 2013, and more than 5,000 across the Nation. We have shown how successful we can be on a local scale in Houston with the Rice Empower model, and are consolidating other Empower chapters in the US to firmly claim our place on the national stage. Empower future leaders. We develop leadership modules that are the lifeblood of fulfilling the WSW missions in developing quality undergraduate & graduate leaders. We are currently working with Leadership Rice, our professional network of individuals, and qualified Board of Advisors to develop these modules that can be exported for a national market of people to use. Lead a national movement. It is our goal at WSW to make our missions a united, global effort that is approached with conviction and dedication from all walks of life. Bridging the gap between science and the public and empowering the civic scientist is a goal that brings us all together – to create a better future for America and the world.
