Carriers are already using vessels that run on green fuels, but these are still scarce & more expensive than fossil fuels. Global climate regulations are crucial to make green fuels viable & to boost investment in their production in order to reach #NetZero2050 ???? We have put forward a #GreenBalanceMechanism proposal to support this & our members are ready! #giveusachancetochange? Listen to CEOs of our members to understand their commitment & investments for decarbonisation. Shmulick Yoskovitz, CEO of X-Press Feeders. Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd AG. K. H. The united voice of liner shipping, working to shape future growth of responsible, sustainable, safe and secure shipping
关于我们
The World Shipping Council provides a coordinated voice for the liner shipping industry in its work with policymakers and other industry groups with an interest in international transportation. The WSC and its member companies partner with governments and other stakeholders to collaborate on actionable solutions for some of the world's most challenging transportation problems. In particular, the World Shipping Council is working to reduce the industry's impact on the environment through new global regulations and international R&D into zero emission propulsion. The WSC also plays an active role in the development of programs that improve maritime security without impeding the free flow of commerce. The WSC also works with a broad range of stakeholders from the public and private sectors to advance policies and programs that will ensure adequate and efficient global transportation infrastructure capacity.

???? ?? This week, WSC’s Damian Viccars and UNODC’s?Kajetan Pradetto spoke on the panel ‘Combat Illegal Wildlife Trafficking in Global Supply Chains - The Impact Border Security and Management Can Have on Environmental Sustainability’ session on the 26th March during the 2025?World?Border?Security?Congress?in Madrid, Spain on 25th-27th March 2025. ?? Illegal trafficking of wildlife one of the most profitable natural resource crimes. It involves the illegal harvesting, trapping or killing of many endangered species of animals or plants for sale to be used as medicine, food, or sold as pets. Whether it is the trafficking in endangered wildlife or the illegal international trade in waste materials, much of it dangerous, border agencies are in the front line in helping to protect the environment. The Congress aimed to promote collaboration,?inter-agency cooperation and information/intelligence sharing amongst?border?agencies and agencies at the?border?to better engage and tackle the increasing threats and cross?border?security?challenges that pertain in today’s global environment. This year, our member Matson, Inc. has recommissioned the Kaimana Hila (KMH) as a dual-fuel vessel, aligning with its long-term strategy to reduce fleet greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Additionally, Matson, Inc. has committed $1 billion to the construction of three new LNG-ready Aloha Class vessels, with deliveries expected between late 2026 and early 2027. However, a key concern for Matson, Inc. is the availability of necessary fuels in sufficient quantities and at commercially viable costs to support this transition. For the energy transition to succeed, the industry relies on International Maritime Organization (IMO) member states to unite at #MEPC83 in support of an IMO Net-Zero Framework—ensuring green fuels can compete effectively with fossil fuels. ? Driving Decarbonization in Liner Shipping! ?? ?? ???? This week, on the 25-26 March 2025, the WSC’s ECC Team met in Washington, DC., to discuss how the liner shipping industry can support robust regulations through the IMO and the EU for shipping to decarbonise and to reach #NetZero2050 Our discussions focused on: ??? WSC’s ECC Strategic Priorities for 2025 -2026. ?? GHG Mid-Term Measures & Sustainable Fuel Certification ? Life Cycle GHG Assessment (LCA) & Onboard Carbon Capture and Storage. ?? Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) Review. ???? Key takeaways from IMO’s PPR 12 & the upcoming MEPC 83 in April 2025. ?? Whale Conservation and protection. ???? The EU’s climate priorities. Liner shipping is?ready to decarbonize?and urges the?International Maritime Organization member states to lead as a global standard-setting forum, ensuring robust regulations on?GHG emissions that will enable shipping access to the zero and near-zero emission fuels necessary for the energy transition. #MEPC83 #IMO #Climate #Decarbonisation

NEW! Reuters Events Supply Chain white paper, in partnership with World Shipping Council: Navigating Shipping to a Decarbonized Future ?? Click here to download: https://lnkd.in/ezzc7v5e In two weeks’ time, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will meet to decide the future of global shipping – and the stakes couldn’t be higher. If IMO leaders agree forward mid-term measures, including a financial mechanism, shipping could become the first industry in the world with a global carbon price. This would be a game-changer, making shipping the first sector with mandatory global GHG regulations designed to hit net-zero emissions by 2050. This meeting will affect everyone. To help you understand how it will impact you, Reuters Events Supply Chain have partnered with World Shipping Council to produce an essential white paper explaining the key factors at play, giving you everything you need to prepare. Featuring expert insights from the following thought leaders: ?? Elisabeth Munck af Rosensch?ld | Global Sustainability Manager | IKEA Supply AG ?? Ingrid Irigoyen | Senior Director, Ocean and Climate | The Aspen Institute ?? Dr Edmund Hughes | IBIA Representative to the IMO ?? Gregory Dolan | CEO | Methanol Institute ?? ?? ???? This week, on the 24th?March 2025, WSC’s Joe Kramek testified at the #USTR 301 ‘Investigation of China’s Targeting of the Maritime, Logistics, and Shipbuilding Sectors for Dominance’ Panel 7 in Washington, DC. We urge the USTR to reconsider its proposed fees on Chinese-built vessels, as retroactive fees on vessels already serving the trade or being built will do nothing to curb the behavior USTR has found actionable, but will do significant harm to the U.S. economy. “WSC supports the goal of building a strong and vibrant U.S. shipbuilding and maritime sector. A strong U.S. maritime sector will have positive ripple effects across the entire maritime industry. However, WSC strongly opposes the proposals in this proceeding for port fees and for requirements to use U.S.-flagged or U.S.-built vessels. These proposals will result in increased costs for U.S. exporters and consumers as well as supply chain inefficiencies while failing to provide China with effective incentives to alter its acts, policies, and practices” says WSC’s Joe Kramek.
