Reflecting on our amazing experience at AASA last week! Every year, we look forward to this unique opportunity to meet new superintendents and catch up with familiar faces. This year, it was especially rewarding to connect with leaders from our school and district partners and work on some coalition building in person. A special thanks to superintendents Jason Berg, Renee Corneille, Dr. Karen Cheser, and Lawrence Bo Wright for presenting with us at our breakout session, Transformative Leadership for an Ever-changing World. Their creative approach to leadership in these complex times is truly inspiring. It’s no surprise that those who attended our session shared how authentic and genuine the conversation felt ?? #WorldSavvy #AASA2025 #ReimaginingEducation #EducationLeaders
关于我们
World Savvy prepares the next generation of leaders to learn, work and thrive as responsible global citizens in the 21st century. We support systemic change in K-12 education to provide every student in every classroom with the content knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to be leaders and changemakers in their diverse communities, locally and globally. World Savvy was founded in 2002 by Dana Mortenson and Madiha Murshed in response to a critical need for youth to acquire global knowledge and 21st century skills within the conspicuous absence of global education programs in K-12 education in the United States. Since that time, we have grown from serving 90 students and 20 teachers in our first year, to reaching nearly 700,000 youth and 5,000 teachers. This growing need for true global competency in our increasingly diverse and interconnected local & global communities has helped to propel World Savvy into a national leader in global education. Our dynamic programs and services help youth in middle and high school learn how to think rather than what to think about critical global and community issues, which are often complex and not addressed in school, and have enormous implications for their local community. ??We just kicked off the first Changemaker Hub with our partners at Durango School District 9-R! We believe that students should have a voice in shaping the future of education, which is why we're excited to collaborate with them on this series of Changemaker Hubs. Students, educators, and community leaders came together to reflect on their learning experiences and reimagine a more inclusive, student-centered education system. One of the activities included imagining a school system without traditional structures like bell schedules, grades, or content areas—sparking creative ideas for personalized learning and mastery-based progression. ??“The most important thing is connection. People coming together. When people come together there’s love, there’s support, there’s safety, there’s not as much bullying. I find that connection is the biggest aspect of a successful school.” - Student Participant These conversations are at the heart of our Changemaker Hubs—empowering young people to drive meaningful change in their schools and communities. We’re excited to lead the conversation on how student-led advocacy can drive meaningful change, drawing from our work with Ella Baker Global Studies and Humanities School in Minneapolis. At this year’s Leading Courageously for Racial Equity Conference hosted by the Department of Educational Leadership at Minnesota State University, Mankato, our Professional Learning Facilitator, Molly Carina Dengler, will share how 4th graders turned classroom learning into real-world impact — designing a more inclusive playground through research, collaboration, and community engagement. This work reflects our commitment to fostering student agency and preparing young people to be changemakers in their communities. #LeadingChange #StudentVoice #EducationInnovation

These 2024 NAEP numbers speak volumes about the state of education and suggest that piecemeal solutions—like SEL, PBL, or STEM—are not enough on their own. While these initiatives are valuable, focusing on isolated areas without a holistic approach isn't driving the academic outcomes we need. At World Savvy, we know that the key to reversing these trends lies in addressing the entire student experience. This means: ??Making learning relevant by engaging students in real-world problems that directly impact their communities. ??Supporting teachers with the tools and frameworks they need to connect classroom learning to the broader world. ??Fostering essential workforce-ready skills like creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving, which are critical for success in today’s world. Rather than relying on siloed approaches, we need to take a broader view that integrates these strategies into a unified framework. A more holistic, interdisciplinary approach is the way forward, one that prepares students not just to pass tests but to thrive in their lives, careers, and communities. An update on Transforming Education Through Storytelling When The Wildling joined forces with World Savvy last year, we envisioned a future where storytelling connects students to one another, their educators, and their learning in deeper and more meaningful ways. One year in, we're proud to share the impact we've made together: 20,000 students reached across 8 states, including Minnesota. Building bridges through activities like the “Identity Iceberg,” fostering self-awareness and respect for differences at all age levels. Classrooms also saw creative storytelling brought to life through shadow puppet performances, helping students find their voices and thrive as a community. #Storytelling #EducationInnovation #StudentImpact #WorldSavvy
