???? Last month, Ross Wehner joined a team of educators on a powerful journey to the US-Mexico border in El Paso, Texas, as part of World Leadership School's Educator Development Program. At a time when immigration is front and center in national conversations, this immersive experience challenged educators to engage directly with the realities of migration. Through personal stories and on-the-ground learning, they explored the complexities beyond the headlines. Ross shares his reflections here: https://shorturl.at/RgvYQ #Education?#Immigration?#ExperientialLearning?#TeacherDevelopment?#WorldLeadershipSchool Erin Hawk?Jessica Catoggio?#worldleadershipschool
关于我们
The mission of World Leadership School is to partner with K-12 schools to reimagine learning and create next-generation leaders. We do this by taking students out into the world and coaching teachers to bring purpose to learning. Teen stress and other forces are causing K-12 schools to explore strategies for bringing greater purpose to learning. We see this as a shift to “head, heart and hands” learning where students forge emotional connections, engage with real world problems, and take action in the world. At the center of our approach is the belief that teachers must be the owners and agents of change and innovation. We believe that teachers must grow themselves before they can grow their practice, and transformed teachers will transform their classrooms. We take students out into the world by helping our schools forge Collaborative Leadership Programs with rural schools and NGOs around the world and in the USA. Our programs focus on community immersion. During these 10-21 day learning programs, students live with host families, spend time in a rural school or shadow an NGO, and form relationships with local students and leaders. Along the way, students from both cultures explore purpose and step forward to tell their own “leadership story.” These programs are a powerful tool to guide students towards lives of purpose and help educators transform classrooms. We help teachers bring purpose to learning through our Virtual Coaching Institute, a yearlong program for teachers and teaching teams. Through regular one-on-one work sessions, our coaches help teachers explore new ideas, shift their approach, and create showcases of learning that embody the future of learning at their school. We support our coaching work with in-service workshops, gatherings and summits, and educator travel programs.

Last month, Ross Wehner traveled with a team of teachers to the US-Mexico border in El Paso, Texas, as part of World Leadership School's Educator Development Program. At a time when immigration is at the center of national debate, this experience challenged educators to step into one of the most politically charged moments at the border. Through firsthand conversations and immersive learning, the team gained a deeper understanding of the complexities of migration and the human stories behind the headlines. ?? What an incredible (and BUSY!) week for the World Leadership School team! Here’s a glimpse of the impactful work we’ve been up to: ? Cary Academy: Erin Hawk led “Risk Management 101” with their full faculty of 140 educators. This workshop was the culmination of months of coaching their leadership team on implementing a school-wide risk management approach. ? Brooklyn Friends School: Jessica Catoggio facilitated a Youth Purpose Summit for their entire Upper School—175 students and 20 faculty—diving deep into purpose-driven learning and connection. ? Mercersburg Academy: Erin and Jess delivered “Risk Management 101” and led an Audit & Design session using WLS’ Phases of World-Connected Learning tools. The sessions engaged 20 educators in foundational risk management and 15 in a dynamic Design Sprint. We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with these schools, empowering educators and students alike to create meaningful, connected learning experiences. ?? #WorldLeadershipSchool?#PurposeDrivenEducation?#RiskManagement?#YouthPurposeSummit?#ConnectedLearning?Ross Wehner

Schools invest considerable time and money into launching strategic plans. But how can we better support teams working to make the change happen? K12 Change Lab is an 18-month change management program that helps schools implement strategic goals through coaching, on-site visits, and a 3-day learning conference in Washington, DC. We begin working with 15 schools (eight have signed up so far) this April to define the goal, assemble the right team, and gain clarity. Each team joins a cohort of schools working on a similar challenge at our K12 Purpose Summit in October at Georgetown Day School. We build community, design the initial idea, and visit exemplary schools. We then dive into 12 months of intensive virtual and on-site coaching. Our coaches come to the school to help the teams mobilize community support, collect data, iterate, overcome obstacles, and do what it takes to make change happen. After a full year of work, the change launches in Fall 2026. Many thanks to our advisory board members, including Russell Shaw, Suzanne Fogarty, Katherine Dinh, Peggy Procter, Shelly Luke Wille (she, her, hers), Andrew Sherman, Percy L. Abram, Ph.D., James Adams, and Josh Cobb. K12 Change Lab is a nonprofit initiative from World Leadership School. Grant funding is available for public and smaller independent schools. ?? Purpose in Action! The Harker School’s recent journey to Peru beautifully illustrates the transformative power of purpose-driven, off-campus learning. Middle school students engaged in an inspiring SPARK workshop, led by WLS and one of our veteran instructors, who brought their findings back to enhance our work in Peru. From weaving cooperatives to healthcare organizations, students connected with leaders at Awamaki, Sacred Valley Health, and Manco Inca School to understand how purpose manifests across cultures. The takeaway? Purpose thrives when gifts are used to contribute to something greater. ? Let’s continue building purpose-driven experiences that connect and inspire. #PurposeDrivenLearning #StudentLeadership #GlobalEducation #WorldLeadershipSchool Erin Hawk Ross Wehner Jessica Catoggio
Another incredible journey to Peru with this year’s group of 8th-grade students! It was a privilege to work alongside Johan Ferro Caballero, Randall Bermudez Garcia, Adela Arenas (in-country) and Ross Wehner Erin Hawk Sofia Ashooh from World Leadership School during our pre-departure preparations. Additionally, my colleagues Mark Janda and @kevinreduta made this an enjoyable endeavor. Throughout the program, students engaged deeply in Purpose Learning, gaining a better understanding of themselves and the impact they can have on the world. They explored rural healthcare at Ayni Wasi (Sacred Valley Health), learned about women’s economic empowerment through weaving at Awamaki, and connected with local students during a school visit. Living with homestay families allowed them to fully immerse in Peruvian culture, creating meaningful connections and lasting memories. A heartfelt thank you to World Leadership School for making this experience possible!

We are proud to share that WLS’ Erin Hawk will be serving as the new Chair of ISEEN: Independent Schools Experiential Education Network Board of Directors. Erin is the first Chair from an Educational Service Provider, and we are excited for her leadership and vision to continue inspiring educators everywhere. This past week, ISEEN celebrated its 20th anniversary at the 2025 ISEEN Winter Institute, hosted by Bosque School and Sandia Preparatory School in Albuquerque, NM. Set against the stunning landscapes of the Southwest, the Institute brought educators together to explore innovative ways to integrate experiential education, land-based learning, and Indigenous ways of Knowing, Being, and Doing. Before the Institute, World Leadership School had the opportunity to share its long-time partnership with Cochiti Pueblo with a group of educators. The entire week was filled with meaningful connections, deep reflections, and exceptional programming, all aimed at transforming education to honor the land, its history, and the wisdom of Indigenous cultures. The 20th anniversary celebration was a time to reconnect with past leaders, celebrate the organization’s growth, and envision the future. #ISEEN2025 #ExperientialEducation #LandBasedLearning #IndigenousKnowledge #WorldLeadershipSchool?
