At Denver International Airport, Scraps is tackling the waste challenge head-on with its groundbreaking Zero Waste Valet program. Scraps partners with food vendors at the airport to collect and divert organic waste and compostable packaging from being landfilled. In the first 6 months since it's launch, this program has diverted 69.2 TONS of waste from landfills. ?? "Before, they saw massive amounts of stuff, like coffee grounds for example, ending up contaminating the recycling or going into the trash. We want to continuing helping the airport and its vendors achieve these sustainability wins." -Scraps Founder, Christi Turner Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/guYy5VUW
关于我们
The choices we make reveal how much we care for our world. Confronted by the social and environmental realities of our time, we choose to pursue our vision for a thriving world. Through our products, carbon giving program, and partnerships we are using business to create a better world. World Centric began with a mission to reduce economic injustice and environmental degradation through education and community networks. Founded in 2004 by Aseem Das as a non-profit, he funded the organization through a small, online store promoting Fair Trade products. Realizing the contribution compostables items have to reducing waste, they were added to the store’s offerings. As demand grew for an earth-friendly alternative to traditional disposables, World Centric began to innovate and introduce our own products made from renewable resources and agricultural byproducts. We unintentionally became a leading supplier in the green packaging industry.Recognizing the power of commerce to impact the planet, World Centric converted to a for-profit social enterprise in 2009. In 2010, we certified as a B Corp, then became a California Benefit Corporation - using our products and profits as a way to make a difference in the world. “When we are young, we think the whole world revolves around us - that is Ego Centric. As we grow, we connect with people who share our same religion or traditions - that is Ethno Centric. When we expand that connection to care about everyone on the planet - that is WORLD CENTRIC.”

?? Part IIII: The Impact ? After visiting the laguna, the team moves to a new planting location to work with rambutan trees, a tropical fruit similar to lychee. After a couple hours of muddy planting, they wrap up the impact trip with a heartfelt circle of gratitude shared with DESPRI’s field team. Hands-on experience deepens employees' perspective, connecting them to the impact of reforestation and community resilience firsthand. This trip reaffirmed the importance of our work here at World Centric and our commitment to building a company that drives real impact. ? ---? ? Last year, 22 World Centric employees embarked on an adventure to the Dominican Republic to visit our nonprofit partner, DESPRI DR. ? ? Employees took part in hands-on environmental work, collecting mangrove seeds and planting cacao and rambutan in a mountain reserve undergoing reforestation. ? ? Follow along on their journey to learn more about DESPRI's work and trees as a powerful climate solution. ???

?? Part III: Wading For Mangrove Propagules ? Covered in mud, the team returns to town to clean up and have lunch at La Cocina Comunitaria, a local nonprofit restaurant run by Cabarete Sostenible. Over lunch, founder Papo shared their inspiring work feeding the community and teaching sustainable gardening techniques. Later, the team visits a coastal mangrove nursery to collect seeds for reforestation. While Group 1 is not able to access the mangrove planting site due to flooding, Group 2 successfully wades in. This is an area where mangroves once flourished but have been lost over time due to unsustainable fishing practices. ---? Cacao trees not only capture carbon and improve soil health, they also serve as a source of income and nutrition for the local community. Using tree nurseries as climate solutions for both people and the planet is something DESPRI excels at.

Day 1 began with breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by the logistical challenge of fitting 11 people into a truck and mini-SUV in the pouring rain. These vehicles, owned by DESPRI co-founders Demeter and Sara, transported the team to the entrance of a mountain reserve.
