Growing up, I HATED tests.
?? I even went as far to select a heavily writing-based major to avoid taking multiple-choice tests.
There’s just something about taking a test that puts me on edge…
So, you can imagine I’m pretty weary of assessments in the workplace in general and tend to proceed with caution.
I’ve heard horror story after horror story about how assessments were unfairly used in the workplace and was truly doubtful that they could tell me ANYTHING about myself that I didn’t already know.
But then I started doing more and more research about different assessments, how they were used, and what they could teach us.
And the use cases I gravitated towards were less about leveraging assessments to make hiring decisions, and more to help teams learn about themselves and how they work together.
?? Recently, I took PI’s Behavioral assessment and learned I was a Persuader.
The assessment takes no longer than 6-mins and tells you about your:
???? Strengths
?? Caution Areas
?? Behavioral tendencies
Not only did it tell me I was a Persuader, it called me out and said:
???? One of my strongest behaviors is that I'm strikingly expressive, effusive, and verbal in communication. (Yes, I'm a yapper!!!!)
?? One of my caution areas is that I’m impatient for results and particularly impatient with details and routines. (Okay, put me on blast The Predictive Index - I see you!!)
One of my favorite things it said about me? I like compliments okay...
?? The report stated that I’m better at influencing others about intangibles such as ideas and concepts. (That’s key for HR IMO)
My favorite thing about this assessment? I made my CEO take it and now we’re comparing where we work the same together and where we differ. More on that later!!!
