Future innovators, meet Workshape Labs. We loved running an adapted version of one of our Workshape Labs experiments with NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship students last week at Bishop Ranch ! We kicked off with delicious lunch at Flourish, followed by an interactive exercise with half the group working on a consensus-building problem in person together, then the other half working on it across 3 different spaces. What did we learn from this awesome group? 1 - There is still clear value in being in person together. 2 - Where data is important, decision-making processes require a bit of facilitation to ensure they don’t default to opinion-sharing only. 3 - Distributed meetings have inherent structure, which can limit the free-flowing conversations that can be valuable in some types of endeavors. 4 - The future is very very bright. Thank you to North Carolina State University students that joined us, Kenneth Proseus Jennifer Capps and Steve Markham . -Brett Hautop Sandi Lam Harder #futureofwork #workshape #workplace #design #innovation

Vice President | Insights & Strategy at Teknion

Teknion is excited to sponsor Workshape Labs. Thank you Brett Hautop and team for the opportunity to partner and help “shape” the experience of work and place.

It's another Monday morning and somehow, people are still asking: “How do we get people back into the office?” When instead they could be asking: "How might we radically transform the way we work to bring more value to our employees, to empower them to achieve better outcomes?" The most impactful workplaces are going to be the ones willing to embrace the sea change, not just allow for incremental improvements. Workshape Labs is hosting FOUR in-person Experimental Experiences this year, where we will be experimenting through hands-on activities to uncover where and how workplace experiences should be radically transformed. If you are a leader in an end user role and the below describes you, you’ll want to register for one of Workshape Labs in-person events here: https://lnkd.in/gwwqJnUs ? 1?? Ready and excited to move your workplace experience beyond the tired conversation, into an era of bold experimentation 2?? Excited to invest in how to truly measure the success of workplace programs, spaces, and initiatives. (Occupancy, utilization, and surveys are important, but only tell part of the story.)? 3?? Interested in spending a day connecting with other leaders in a fun, hands-on way (yep, you’ll make solid connections without the dreaded “networking hour”) 4?? Able to attend one of our 4 events: - Sept 10 in Seattle - Sept 25 in NYC - Oct 23 in Austin - Nov 6 in SF 5?? Able to bring 2-4 fellow leaders from your organization who are also invested in the workplace experience to join you at one of our 4 events - these can be friends from the same, adjacent, or totally unrelated orgs - Workplace, Real Estate, People, HR, Comms, AV, IT, Eng, Marketing, etc. There are only 50 seats available in each location. If you’re interested in joining Workshape Labs for one of our in-person events, register before the end of the month: https://lnkd.in/gPr2kMYh If you need more convincing (and you shouldn’t!), these experiences are being offered at no cost, thanks to the support of our industry sponsors, all of whom are committed to meaningfully shaping the workplace in the ways that matter most. DLR Group Teknion Bevi VendiBean Vitra Fyrn For my fellow industry expert friends, please feel free to share with others that might benefit. We’re always looking for partners that can enhance our experiences, so let us know how you’re interested in participating by filling out an Industry Partner form on our site or let us know!

Making work, workplace strategy & workplace design more human | Work Futurist | Modern Work Consultant | Keynote speaker | Mama Workathon Member | Future of Work Alliance Founding Member

Another super early start this morning (??????) with a highly informed and genuinely curious global audience who were full of great questions for Brett Hautop, Andy Lake and I. We shared UK, US and AU perspectives on how legacy systems are getting in the way of a more human experience of work. One of the most asked questions was around what those systems are - what are we talking about exactly???? ????♀? I like to think about systems of work in terms of Work-Patterns (how, why and who), Work-Technology (sync/async, linear/parallel, digital & distributed etc) and Work-Places (cities, CBDs, buildings, ceiling grids, standardised lighting and air-con, rooms, workstations and furniture) All these systems should be aligned to create great experiences for people, but sadly are often in tension and competing with each other in a race to become as standardised and utilitarian as possible, and whether cultural, digital or physical, can often result in a distinct lack of choice, autonomy, trust, individual & collective agency, joy and delight. I think part of the answer lies in remembering we are from, and a part of the most important (eco)system of all: Nature, and that as humans we crave randomness, surprise, diversity and delight. Call it Biophilia, or designing for Neurodiversity, whatever the label, we need our spaces for work to be more reflective of the sphere of sensory and experiential preferences that are found #IRL outside ‘the office’. If you missed the session, the recording will be available soon- watch this space. Thanks to the Workshape crew especially Omar Ramirez and Sandi Lam Harder for making it all happen??, and thanks to those brave Aussies who sacrificed the rest of their Friday in joining us at 6am ?? ??

Are the systems shaping our work truly supporting us—or are they holding us back? For Workshape’s second online session of the year, “Rethinking Systems”, we have TWO experts joining me in conversation this Thursday.? We’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Andy Lake and Domino Risch over the past few months, and I am excited to get into this topic with them. We’ll explore: 1?? What systems we encounter at work 2?? Which systems need to be reimagined to genuinely support modern work 3?? How workplaces play a role in our larger societal systems 4?? How we can bring about the needed changes in our own workplaces? Join us live on March 13th 12:00-1:00 pm PT for this second session in our four-part series covering Human Needs, Systems, Places, and Tech. If you can’t attend live, no worries. Register anyway and we’ll send you the recording for all past sessions. Huge thanks to our sponsors for making these insightful discussions possible: DLR Group Teknion Bevi VendiBean Vitra Fyrn

Places shape our experiences, inspire creativity, foster connection, enable meaningful connections, and much more. But beyond digital and physical spaces, what other “places” exist? I’m thrilled to be in conversation with DLR Group’s B Sanborn?- how we define “place”, why it matters, what we can do in our workplaces to create healthier environments for the people who inhabit them. Join us at?Workshape on April 10th 12-1p PT for “Places Matter”. Register here for access to all 4 of our online sessions (they’re all going to be good):?https://lnkd.in/gx3gFd4D If you can’t make it live, it will be recorded and distributed to everyone who registered. The water is nice, come on in. We are creating a new swim lane and there's plenty of room for forward thinking organizations and individuals to join us. Its time to radically adapt the how and where of work. Its time to create wholly new experiences and environments to support individuals and teams. Its time to throw out the rules and conventions the workplaces we have all known for so long and start anew. Take a quick look at some of what we are offering at Workshape and give us a shout. We are actively seeking new clients, new partners and new team members. And don't worry, we have floaties for the deep end. ?? ?? ??

Every time I turn around, there’s a new major development in tech. Tools are getting better, AI is building AI. As tech continues to evolve at a lightning pace, it forces us to constantly reckon with our relationship with physical spaces, systems, and can even obscure our human needs. Looking forward to sitting down with Raphael Gielgen to talk about how we can harness tech to amplify human strengths rather than letting it dictate our direction. Join us for this session “Tech as an Amplifier” on May 15th 12-1p PT. Register here for access to all 4 of our online sessions (they’re all going to be good):?https://lnkd.in/gxHKU-hr you can’t make it live, it will be recorded and distributed to everyone who registered. Thanks to our growing group of sponsors who care about pushing the workplace conversation beyond its usual boundaries DLR Group AlfaTech Vitra Fyrn.
