WorkingNation is a storytelling organization that seeks to galvanize the public will and mobilize critical resources to mitigate the growing employability gap in America. Advancements in technology, globalization, and longevity are profoundly changing the way our society operates, leading both to enormous progress and to a disruption of the very nature of employment. Through original content and partnerships with a coalition of engaged stakeholders - including corporations, NPOs, thought leaders, philanthropists, policymakers and local governments - WorkingNation draws attention to the gravity of the current technological, economic, and demographic challenges being faced globally, and highlights the promise of solutions that will help create a world-ready U.S. workforce and a thriving economy. WorkingNation is producing high-quality, non-fiction, short- and long-form film programing and print articles that make vivid the underlying causes of the growing employability gap. Working with acclaimed directors and producers, we highlight the dramatic impact of these global forces on real people, as well as the organizations and visionary leaders that are leading the charge towards the new economic reality. WorkingNation seeks to create a movement to help America build, restore, and shape sustainable pathways to prosperity and the middle class so that, as a nation, we are all ready for the inevitable challenges and opportunities of the future.

John Tansill, director of veteran affairs at SkillStorm, says veterans offer qualities to companies beyond their technical skills. For instance, he says, “The U.S. military has been working in an agile environment since Washington crossed the Delaware and so, they’re very adaptable. They’re?very good at pivoting.” Read more about how SkillStorm is helping prepare transitioning military personnel and their spouses for careers in tech in this new WorkingNation report: https://lnkd.in/eruAZvKH #MilitaryTransition #TechJobs #veterans #CareerPathways #certifications Soleil Morrison U.S. Department of Labor Veterans Employment Training Service, Inc. I am so excited to be a part of this report on the incredible work of states to advance the important work of apprenticeship. Kudos to Whiteboard and Apprenticeships for America WorkingNation #AFA #WhiteboardAdvisors
If only every week were National Apprenticeship Week. But I'm at least glad I get to celebrate with John Colborn Harry Leech and the team at Apprenticeships for America. Their new report on state apprenticeship policy is out today and is –?in my humble opinion – a great way to mark #NationalApprenticeshipWeek as states take the lead on making earn-and-learn models a reality. (oh, and don't miss the foreword by Jane Oates either!)

(?? Espa?ol) Neighborhoods are made up of people who operate businesses, add a certain character to their homes and streets, and build distinctive cultures over time. But neighborhoods also change. Native Americans have endured higher unemployment rates than the national average, but there are education-to-career programs in several states trying to change that by paving better career pathways to quality jobs. Meet several Native Americans using these programs to help change the equation: https://lnkd.in/eGudHHNY For instance, Ashton Gatewood, a resident physician at the University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine in Tulsa, recently went through the only U.S. medical school affiliated with a tribe, and says it was an important aspect of her journey. “The main thing for me was to be able to continue working with tribal members on tribal land,” she says of attending Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine at the Cherokee Nation (OSU-COM). “The fact is we had faculty, staff, students, patients – everyone is part of that community – all working together to improve our health and wellness. That’s something that’s really unique about being a student at that school.” #NativeAmerican #CareerPathways #EducationToCareer #AmericanIndian Katie Bugg Red River Nation Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Natasha Bray, DO Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences Cherokee Nation Indian Health Service National Health Service Corps Nicholas Kedrowski Nyree Kedrowski Oneida Nation Five Skies Training and Consulting Ramona Schindelheim

An existing teacher shortage accelerated during the pandemic, and America’s classrooms continue to feel pain. But a relatively new approach is being deployed on this problem: registered apprenticeships. Read about how it’s putting teachers in classrooms: https://lnkd.in/eDKNYFmA Are you a teacher? Tell us in the comments how you are feeling the staffing shortage and why it's happening. Here’s one explanation: “For this core profession that is so critical to our society – let alone our economy – it’s just too expensive to become a teacher,” says Maureen Tracey-Mooney, senior advisor for the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development. “A lot of folks are looking at the cost, they’re looking at the pay, and the math isn’t mathing.” Learn more in Victoria Lim’s report. By the way, it’s National Apprenticeship Week, and apprenticeships can be solutions beyond the teaching profession.
