The Southeast Texas unadjusted unemployment rate for January 2025 increased to 5.4 percent, an increase of 0.3 percent from December’s adjusted rate of 5.1 percent, based on data released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The total civilian labor force totals 185,334, which includes 175,296 employed and 10,038 unemployed. In addition, over 6,500 job openings from different industries were available. The adjusted rate is due to TWC finishing yearly benchmarking, which adjusted the previously reported numbers as new sources of information and data become available. The decrease in industry sector jobs can be partly attributed to the holiday season’s demand. Newton County has also been removed from the Southeast Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).
