In the Dallas-Fort Worth region, Year Up United is part of a strong network of training providers, employers, and community & civic leaders collaborating closely to serve the needs of the market and close the Opportunity Divide at scale. Last week, this community came together for the United for Impact Luncheon at Dallas College’s Cedar Valley campus. Nearly 100 attendees learned more about Year Up United’s rebrand & vision for the future and engaged in timely discussions about career pathways for Opportunity Youth and skills-first talent practices. The event was full of compelling insights and “aha moments.” For example, Todd Williams (The Commit Partnership) and Natalie Young Williams, JD (Tarrant To & Through Partnership) took us on a journey of what’s happening across Dallas & Tarrant Counties to create seamless career pathways for all students to obtain essential skills in high school. Natalie discussed how Year Up United’s #CareerLabs program is a key part of that plan for T3. From an employer perspective, Chris Holm (Hillwood) spoke on the importance of skills-first talent practices, saying that they’re “not only important, but necessary for businesses to thrive and survive.” Jennifer Chandler (Bank of America) shared that while Bank of America has no shortage of candidates, they work with Year Up United and adopt a skills-first approach because they want the best talent. During the event, Jennifer was honored with a surprise Year Up United 2024 Corporate Champion Award for her unwavering commitment to Year Up United’s mission and advocacy of our impact and young adults across North Texas and beyond. Our work in Dallas-Fort Worth is a testament to the immense power of partnership. Through an ecosystem of mission-aligned organizations, we can collectively close the Opportunity Divide from both sides and serve as a model for other markets across the country. United, there’s nowhere to go but up! Thank you to all of our insightful speakers: Jennifer Chandler (Bank of America), Casey Thomas (Entrepreneur & Former Dallas City Councilman), Chris Holm (Hillwood), Francisca Williams-Oni, MPH (Grads of Life), Joe Seabrooks (Dallas College), Todd Williams (The Commit Partnership), Natalie Williams (T3), Rachel Hampton, LMSW (Lone Star Justice Alliance), Jaivon Caldwell (JPMorganChase; Year Up United alumnus), Elisha Gilliam (Year Up United), and Dr. Jasmine Collier (Year Up United). #YearUpUnited #TalentNetworks #DFW #PartnershipInAction #UnitedforImpactLuncheon
