WORKac’s Mission Rock Building B is out now in THE PLAN 157 in Raymund Ryan’s Letter From America. “The entire structure, with its dynamic appearance, is characterized by horizontal shifts, created by the irregular arrangement of overlapping planes, and by vertical cuts that create voids in the elevations of the external envelope. The carefully rounded edges by WORKac, including the window frames and jambs, soften the very marked orthogonal approach, transforming the elevations into soft and contiguous surfaces. Upon closer inspection, Building B is a matrix of habitable elements, planted terraces and glazed recesses characterised by a band of large square windows on each floor resembling a strip of analogue film. The floors recede – and sometimes protrude – as the building grows in height, where the volumetric mass allows. The numerous resulting terraces extend on all sides of the building.” - Raymund Ryan Building B is part of the 28-acre redevelopment effort led by Tishman Speyer and the San Francisco Giants. The first phase of Mission Rock features China Basin Park, a new 5-acre public park designed by SCAPE Landscape Architecture DPC and four new buildings, designed by Henning Larsen, MVRDV and Studio Gang. 关于我们
WORKac, founded by Amale Andraos and Dan Wood, was named the #1 design firm in the US by Architect Magazine and Firm of the Year by AIA NYS. WORKac has achieved acclaim for projects such as the DvF Headquarters in New York and the Blaffer Museum of Art in Houston, as well as their contributions to the Chicago Architecture Biennale and for the Museum of Modern Art. Current projects include two community centers in Mexico City, the North Boulder Public Library, and a new space for the Peoples Theater Project. We work with a shared belief in the power of architecture to engage environmental and social concerns, and in the power of design to create new possibilities for the future. We work throughout the US and around the world with a deep engagement with local cultures, climates and histories. Our focus is on public, cultural and civic projects that re-invent how we live, work and share together. We embrace collaboration to develop intelligent and playful integration between architecture, landscape and ecological systems. We believe in fostering social sustainability: creating new typologies, shared infrastructures and new forms of collective experiences that support underrepresented voices in re-imagining what ‘public’ can mean at a time of increased privatization. In these uncertain times, we believe in architecture and design’s capacities to draw resolute realism together with polemical optimism as a means to move beyond the projected and towards the possible.

WORKac is leading the transformation of the historic Sibley Dome at Cornell University College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. Currently serving as a connection between the East and West Wings of Sibley Hall and the Campus Arts Quad, the reimagined Sibley Dome offers a new place for students, faculty, and staff to come together. Breathing new life into underutilized spaces while preserving the dome’s historic architecture, the renovation introduces new multipurpose spaces, including a new suspended 100-seat auditorium, study nooks and group spaces, and a home for the Department of Design Tech and the Cornell Mui Ho Center for Cities.
