Word In Black is a program of LMF, a 501 (c)(3) organization focused on helping local media companies reinvent business models for news. I often hear harmful coming out experiences shared online, especially from Black LGBTQ+ folks who have been ostracized from their families or communities after choosing to express their identity and live in their truth. While there is still much work to be done to address queerphobia in Black spaces, I wanted to explore the other side of the coin for #NationalComingOutDay. In “Black, Out, and Proud,” I dive into joyful coming out stories from Black LGBTQ+ folks, their lessons, and how communities can better support Black LGBTQ+ folks during these pivotal moments. Ernie Hudson is tempting his fans with a sexy new partnership. The “Ghostbusters” actor is joining forces with pharmaceutical giant Pfizer in a campaign to get older adults vaccinated against RSV. Word In Black sat down with Hudson to discuss why he decided to get involved in this campaign and the importance of Black men being proactive about their health.
