When an anti-DEI bill came up for discussion on the House floor, Rep. Jasmine Crockett pushed back hard, decrying the notion that white men are oppressed as the bill claimed. “You tell me which white men were dragged out of their homes. You tell me which one of them was dragged across an ocean and told they were going to work, have their wives stolen, and have their wives raped. That didn’t happen. That?is oppression,” Crockett said. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gus5RbYa #WordInBlack #politics #DEI

The race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump was a roller coaster of stress and emotions for Black communities. Health care professionals say self-care is key to coping with the aftermath. Keeping up with the news is important, but so is the headspace and time to heal from disappointment. If you’re still feeling blue, angry, or dismayed for two weeks or longer, psychiatrist and professor Dr.?Damon Tweedy says it’s time to seek professional help. “You still have to balance,” Tweedy says. “’Is doomscrolling on Twitter or Instagram really helping my mental well-being? Here we are again, staring down a familiar reality: A Donald Trump presidency. Roughly 90% of Black women and 80% of Black men cast a ballot for Kamala Harris, but 59% of white men, 52% of white women, and 54% of Latino men voted for Trump. But why did people vote for him? Our Black Vote, Black Power correspondent Keith Boykin says most people actually agreed with Harris on the issues, and Trump had nothing more than "concepts of a plan." But Trump's take on healthcare or the economy is not what people voted for. https://lnkd.in/gRjYDt6z

From limiting federal oversight to ensure civil rights protections and adequate education for students with disabilities to ending the data collection key to holding unscrupulous colleges accountable, EdTrust's Reid Setzer breaks down why eliminating the Department of Education could have devastating consequences for students throughout their academic journeys, from preschool through college. "It’s clear that the Department of Education is an essential part of the federal government. The next administration MUST keep ED intact — for the future of America’s students and the entire country," Setzer writes for Word In Black.
