A community development corporation who's goal is to preserve neighborhoods while providing affordable housing
关于我们
Worcester Common Ground is a Community Development Corporation that was founded in 1988 in response to absentee ownership in the city, the high cost of housing, and the widespread displacement of families which led to a housing crisis. Currently, our mission is to promote and develop permanent and sustainable improvement in the neighborhoods of Central Worcester through affordable housing, community activism, economic development, and greenspaces that provide healthy food and educational opportunities.

We are beyond excited to share that Worcester Common Ground has been awarded funds from the Healey-Driscoll administration to build affordable housing that utilizes sustainable construction, utilities, and appliances to reduce greenhouse gas production and provide low-income housing to the community. Stay tuned for updates on these projects throughout 2025!
We are thrilled to share that the Healey-Driscoll Administration has awarded $16 million in Climate Ready Housing funds to decarbonize affordable housing across Massachusetts. As a driving force in the delivery of deep energy retrofit funding to low-income housing communities, our LISC Massachusetts Green Homes team played a central role in soliciting submissions, reviewing applications from project owners, and making award recommendations to the MA Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC). This round of funding will enable significant energy savings, operating savings, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions in almost 1,000 affordable units across the state. ? We are grateful to?EOHLC,?MHP (Massachusetts Housing Partnership), and MassHousing?for their collaboration in awarding?this funding. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Groundbreaking Ceremony last week! It was a great kick off to the start of our project - 3 condominiums that will be first-time homebuyer opportunities for local residents. This groundbreaking holds extra meaning, as the first floor home will be fully accessible and have 2 bedrooms for a potential caregiver to live there as well, a rare sight in the waves of development we are seeing sweep across the city. We also want to thank the funders who made this project possible! UMass Memorial Health MassHousing City of Worcester and the Episcopal Diocese of Western MA As well as our architect, JMA Architects and our contractor Landmark Associates, Inc. The design is both beautiful and functional for future homebuyers. Special thanks to YouthBuild Worcester and District 4 City Councilor Luis Ojeda for speaking about the importance of homeownership in the Piedmont neighborhoods. And lastly, to Benji Kemper from Center for Living & Working, for speaking on how crucial accessible affordable housing is. Stay tuned for more exciting updates as this build comes to fruition!
