Excited to share my latest article in Minerals journal: "Mapping Alteration Minerals Associated with Aktogay Porphyry Copper Mineralization in Eastern Kazakhstan Using Landsat-8 and ASTER Satellite Sensors." ?? Importance: Copper is a critical metal for electrification and high-tech applications. Porphyry deposits are key sources of copper and other essential minerals. Traditional exploration methods are costly and environmentally taxing. Our study leverages remote sensing technology for efficient, eco-friendly mineral exploration. ??? Methods: We utilized Landsat-8 and ASTER satellite sensors, applying advanced image processing techniques like band ratios (BRs), principal component analysis (PCA), and the Crosta method. These techniques helped delineate hydrothermal alteration zones, validated by field data. ?? Findings: ASTER data, especially with specialized BRs and the Crosta method, effectively identified key alteration zones (potassic, propylitic, argillic, iron oxide) linked to ore mineralization. This approach offers a rapid, cost-effective tool for early-stage exploration of porphyry copper systems. ?? Impact: Our remote sensing-based approach provides a scalable, efficient framework for mineral exploration in geologically complex regions, supporting sustainable resource development in Kazakhstan and beyond.
