Our Reno office just kicked off its first Charity Anniversary Spin of the year by hosting Sierra Nevada Journeys and donating $4,140 to support their mission! Sierra Nevada Journeys delivers outdoor, science-based education to youth, helping them develop critical thinking skills while fostering a love for natural resource stewardship. Their programs range from classroom STEM lessons to immersive overnight outdoor experiences, providing invaluable learning opportunities, especially for underserved students. Last week I volunteered for ASCE Sacramento YMF’s Introduce a Girl to Engineering (IGED) event with my electrical engineer friend Emily Hughes! We turned interpreting engineering plans into a Game Show where students raced to build 3D block structures based on 2D plan and elevation views before hitting the buzzer! There were many “aha!” moments and one girl even said “I should become an engineer” after building the most difficult plan we had. Mission accomplished! Big shout out to Wood Rodgers, Inc. STEAM TEAM for sponsoring and supporting the event!!

I’m thrilled to announce that Wood Rodgers, Inc. has been awarded the contract for the 9th Street Separated Bikeway Project by the City of Sacramento! This project will extend the separated bikeway network, improving connections between neighborhoods and downtown, encouraging more and safer bicycle trips. The 9th Street Separated Bikeway Project is a crucial element in the City of Sacramento’s plan for enhanced mobility within the Downtown Grid. We are genuinely excited about this opportunity to continue our collaboration and help the City realize its vision for a more connected and bike-friendly community.

Wood Rodgers, Inc. is out in the desert near Joshua Tree destroying wells! Out with the old and in with the new. We're helping desert communities remove outdated wells from their water system. We're using the shot perforation method, a great example of an efficient and effective well destruction technique, and enhances groundwater protection. ?? What makes shot perforation so effective? -Full Sealing – By perforating the well casing at controlled intervals, we allow grout to fully penetrate and block off any potential contamination pathways. -Prevents Cross-Contamination – Seals off different aquifer layers, preventing water mixing and protecting groundwater quality. -More Efficient Than Overdrilling – Instead of fully removing the casing, which can be costly and time-consuming, this method ensures a safe, cost-effective decommissioning with minimal site disruption. We are proud to share that Aaron Pickett, one of our talented interns at Wood Rodgers, has been awarded the 2024 Tim Fleming Memorial Scholarship! This prestigious scholarship, administered by the California Transportation Foundation (CTF), honors the legacy of Tim Fleming and supports students pursuing careers in transportation engineering. Aaron, a Civil Engineering student at Sacramento State, is one of two recipients of this year’s $5,000 scholarship. He was recognized at the ACEC Sierra Chapter Past President’s Dinner on February 19.
