Affirming Sexual Freedom as a Fundamental Human Right The Woodhull Freedom Foundation works to advance the recognition of sexual, gender, and family diversity. We work to improve the well-being, rights and autonomy of every individual thru advocacy, education and action. Our mission is to affirm sexual freedom as a fundamental human right. We’ve been fighting for those rights by focusing on a wide range of human rights issues, including immigration equality, reproductive justice, prison reform, anti-discrimination legislation, comprehensive nonjudgmental sexuality education, and the right to define our own families. As the nation’s leading sexual freedom and human rights organization, honored by Proclamation in Washington, DC, we are uniquely positioned to bring together allies and partners, thereby maximizing our effectiveness and theirs. Together, with your support, we can move mountains! Our programs include: - Family Matters Project - Sexual Freedom Alliance - Sexual Freedom Summit Keep in touch here and on Facebook and Twitter to be involved with the fight for human rights and sexual freedom! “Sexual Freedom is perhaps both one of the highest human aspirations and the foundation of all human rights, the cornerstone for all our civil liberties. It is both source and prerequisite for much, if not all, that motivates human beings.” -Barnaby B. Barratt, Why Sexual Freedom is a Fundamental Human Right, An Introduction to Woodhull Sexual Freedom Alliance’s State of Sexual Freedom Report.

??? Join us on March 31 for "The Byte Barrier: How Algorithms Are Silencing Our Sexual Voices," a crucial discussion on the impact of algorithmic censorship on sexual freedom and human rights. ?? Did you know that 61% of LGBTQIA content and 45% of online sexual health information are censored without explanation? This affects marginalized communities disproportionately, limiting access to vital information and silencing voices. Our panel of experts will delve into these issues and explore solutions for more transparent and context-sensitive content moderation policies. This event is free and open to all passionate about sexual health and rights. ASL interpretation will be provided. Register now and be part of this important conversation! Woodhull staff, COO Mandy Salley, LSW, MSW, MEd (she/her), and Policy Analyst Allison Grossman, PhD made two visits to Albany with Fact Checked by Woodhull to educate lawmakers about two proposed bills that would make life in the Empire State safer for sex workers. The bills:? ?? ?A.1029 (Kelles) / S.3967 (Sepulveda) - would provide immunity (protection) from prosecution when a sex worker or victim of sex trafficking reports a crime to law enforcement or seeks healthcare. ?? A. 3251 (Forrest) / S.3513 (Salazar) Cecilia’s Act for Rights in the Sex Trades - named in honor of legendary activist Cecilia Gentili - the act would decriminalize consensual adult sex work in New York state. Spending time in community with fellow activists was a true pleasure amid the turmoil and harm many of us have experienced since January 20. Thanks to our allies at Immunity NY and Decrim NY for organizing legislative meetings, getting supporters to Albany, and upholding human rights and sexual freedom for all New Yorkers! You can count on Woodhull to step up and speak out - always!

We joined several of our free expression allies in signing a letter opposing the TAKE IT DOWN Act (S.146). The letter highlights concerns about the legislation’s potential impact on free speech and privacy rights. Addressing nonconsensual distribution of intimate imagery (NDII) online is incredibly important. However, we are concerned that the bill's current form poses unacceptable risks to user speech and online privacy - both of which are human rights that our legislators should protect! ?? We are primarily worried about: ? The bill's notice and takedown (NTD) mechanism, which could result in the removal of constitutionally protected speech. ? A potential threat to encrypted platforms and private communication services. The bill creates an impossible obligation to take down content that providers cannot access, potentially incentivizing content filtering that would compromise encryption. Legislation aimed at addressing online harms is complex. There’s no doubt about that. We urge our legislators to carefully consider all of the potential consequences of the legislation they support and seek expert input while working to protect our human rights! We’re available to talk anytime, senators! ?? We investigated NCII and porn for Fact Checked by Woodhull.
