Celebrate the Spooky Season with Mike and Ike! Mike and Ike were brought into the animal hospital in 2017 after being raised by the humans who found them for 4 months. As they grew older, they became too destructive in a home setting. The staff at the wildlife hospital kept them in the releasable housing area hoping they would learn to not depend on humans. It was determined Mike and Ike could not be released back into the wild because they were raised with too much human handling, aka they were habituated. Symbolic adoptions make great gifts for any special occasion or even as a treat for yourself! Go to cedarrun.org/adopt to symbolically adopt Mike & Ike or any of our wildlife ambassadors today! #cedarrun #animallovers #njwildlife #naturegift

Patient Release: Black Vultures Our Wildlife Rehabilitation Hospital admitted these two baby Black Vultures in early July after they were removed from the finder’s attic. Vultures are known to nest in old or abandoned buildings, so these parents judged this home with a hole in the attic to be perfect! Unfortunately, the finder was not open to putting them back with their parents or even in the area, so they had to remain in rehabilitation. Since they were still being taken care of, the babies were in good health when they arrived. Vultures easily imprint, so our staff made sure to mask their human form whenever the babies needed to be fed or cleaned. Luckily these two babies grew up to be rambunctious and wild! Once they were of age and strong fliers we were so happy to release them back to the wild! The nesting behaviors of vultures can be confusing to finders when compared to other birds. Our Wildlife Hospital receives calls each year that baby vultures were found outside of their nest. However, vultures commonly nest on the ground and scrape together a small amount of debris instead of making a full nest as would be seen commonly with other bird species. These “nests” may be found in dilapidated buildings, barns, under fallen trees, or the hollow bases of trees. If you have questions regarding native NJ wildlife, please call our Wildlife Hospital at 856-983-3329 ext. 107. #njwildlife #wildlifewednesday #vultureappreciation #cedarrun #animallovers

Start your morning with a bit of sunshine and cheer with our resident Red Fox, Ember! Ember is here to remind you to take some time to enjoy your surroundings today! Set aside some time to relax, read a book, go for a hike, or even stop by our Nature Center! These kinds of activities enrich your day, and just like Ember, we all need a little enrichment!
