When we think of wooden wall panelling, we often picture a very traditional look borrowed from past times – from classic Edwardian and Tudor styles through to quintessentially American shiplap cladding. According to the National Association of Realtors? 2022 Remodeling Impact report, hardwood flooring delivers an estimated return on investment of 118% on average, increasing the value of a property by up to 2.5%. Research suggests that more than half of home buyers are willing to pay more for a property that has hardwood floors already installed.

Joske’s was a famous department store founded on the Main Plaza in San Antonio in 1867 by a German immigrant named Julius Joske. Joske’s expanded over the years to include 26 locations in Texas and Arizona and was the first department store in the south to offer escalators from street level to the top floor. It was famous for its ‘Fantasy Land’ festive experience and extravagant seasonal décor. When Joske’s eventually closed down, the Main Plaza building was gutted for retail units – and we were honored to be able to salvage some of the original longleaf pine beams, estimating their age in centuries, not years. Those beams have been milled into reclaimed flooring that’s been used in several WoodCo projects, preserving the legacy of Joske’s for a new generation ??

Children are most at home in nature – they’re natural born explorers! So when we were asked to supply flooring for the Children’s Discovery Center at Mount Pleasant in South Carolina, we took an approach that would lean into that innate curiosity. This quirky floor was created using our Dover end grain mesquite rounds with the bark left on, exposing all the growth rings and texture of the tree for a look that feels super tactile and organic, and even serves as a learning resource! Using the end grain also makes this floor extremely durable and resistant to denting, which is ideal for a play environment ??

Our Pinta Plank flooring is made from reclaimed red and white oak, which tends to have a tighter grain pattern and richer color variations than new oak, as well as all the characteristic weathering, cracks, nail holes and natural features of reclaimed wood.
