New skills development is one of the preconditions to transition towards a #circulareconomy, where material cycles are closed, eliminating waste. But this circular transition requires evidence-based strategies and processes in place to work effectively. Yes, it is easier said than done. Because in the wood industry, waste from construction, demolition, and furniture presents a growing challenge that needs not only innovative tech solutions, but also a skilled workforce ready for the future. W2W project is developing solutions, though we need a clearer picture of the skills needed to drive these strategies and processes for a circular transition. And then we must develop and ground these new skills within the education system and labour market. Your expertise in sustainability, innovation, policy, and socio-technical systems can help us in identifying the?skills and strategies needed for a truly circular transition. Throwback to CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies) #IdeasLab last week, including #Wood2WoodEUproject! Ideas Lab, a CEPS flagship event, is a high-level intellectual forum that hosts impactful discussions with experts and policymakers on a wide range of current and pressing issues faced by the #EU. As one of our consortium partners, CEPS showcased Wood2Wood at the forum along with others, focusing on policy pathways to increase material circularity in the #EuropeanUnion. Strategically, the #IdeasLab came close on the heels of the #CleanIndustrialDeal and the #CompetitivenessCompass launched by the European Commission earlier this year, providing impetus to EU's sustainability and competitiveness goals. Indeed, the EU stands at a crossroads of balancing competitiveness while decarbonising its industries in the face of #climate change, high energy costs and fierce global competition to secure critical resources for societal needs. Our project, for instance, aims to make Europe more #competitive and #sustainable, especially by upholding the #circularity ambitions of the #EuropeanGreenDeal. By increasing the #reuse, #recycling and #upcycling of secondary raw materials (wood waste) derived from Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW), W2W project will significantly reduce the industries' dependence on virgin forests for primary wood, CO2 emissions, and also waste sent to landfills or incineration facilities. Our advanced sorting and separation technologies provides tangible pathways to secure secondary raw materials from wood waste and achieve circularity by creating new value-added products. #ERF2025 is around the corner! And W2W project is going to participate in a workshop on “?????????????????????? #???????????????? #???? ?????? ?????????? ???? ??????-??????????.” From I-SENSEGroup/ICCS, Dr. Fotios Konstantinidis and Konstantinos Kokkalis from Industry 5.0 and Smart Manufacturing division will speak in the session on tackling the challenges of deploying #robotics and #AI systems in real-world applications, along with strategies for their successful implementation. In a month from now, W2W Project will go to #EuropeanRoboticsForum to engage in discussions on #robotics and #automation for sustainability objectives. In Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW), other physical impurities exist aside from the chemical contamination on the surface. ????♂?In our project, we are using Human-Robot Collaboration to decrease waste due to physical impurities, taking advantage of human dexterity and robotic endurance. This was also one of the focus areas at the Innovent Forum this year, where our project representatives from I-SENSEGroup/ICCS, responsible for combining human-robot collab and Mixed Reality, explained to booth visitors why this teamwork is essential to reduce waste due to physical impurities.
