Please join us in welcoming Shauna Carter, EdD to Wonderspring's Board of Directors! We are thrilled to have her on our team! Dr. Shauna Carter relocated from New Jersey to Pennsylvania five years ago and is currently serving as the Middle School Director at The Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. She is completing her seventeenth year in educational administration in both public and independent school settings. In July, Shauna will be the 47th Head of School for the Linden Hall School for Girls in Lititz, PA. Shauna describes herself as a servant leader, who has collaborated with students, families, faculty, and staff on structures and processes that can ensure stakeholders’ needs are holistically met with consistency and efficiency. She especially enjoys partnering and developing teacher leaders within schools to ensure student achievement and institutional success from the shared belief that "many hands make light work." Shauna received her Bachelors of Arts degree in English at The George Washington University, her first Master of Arts degree in English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, her second Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration at Rider University, and her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, Management, and Policy at Seton Hall University. Shauna is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated,?Omega Mu Omega Chapter, The Links Incorporated, Delaware Valley (PA) Chapter,?and the Junior League of Philadelphia. She loves traveling domestically and internationally, going to museums, and exploring all that Philadelphia has to offer.

Founded in 1964, Wonderspring is a regional leader in providing families throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania with affordable, high quality educational environments for children 6 weeks to 12 years old. Today, Wonderspring serves over 1,000 children through its 10 early childhood and school age sites in Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties. Included in this number are Early Head Start and Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts programs. Wonderspring’s mission is to help families thrive by providing safe, convenient, and highest quality learning opportunities and care for children in Greater Philadelphia. Since our inception, our commitment to excellence is nationally recognized by multiple agencies including: NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), NAA (National Afterschool Association) and COA (Council on Accreditation). In addition, all of our early childhood centers have achieved a STAR 4 rating (out of 4) in PA’s Keystone STARS program. This program rates quality based on staff education, learning environment, leadership and management, and family and community partnerships.

Our families are thrilled about the new playground that is coming to our Powelton Village Center on September 26! Designed with input from the children at our center, the new playground will be built by 150 community volunteers, led by KABOOM! and supported by Fannie Mae, as part of a nation-wide effort to end play space inequality.

The majority of the children served by our Powelton Village center live in the densely-populated urban area where the center is situated. As a result, many lack access to safe engaging spaces to play outside.
