Meet Shari Horton, an incredible entrepreneur we partnered with to help her start her own childcare business in Detroit, Michigan. Shari represents a new shift for Wonderschool, where we not only help entrepreneurs launch home-based programs, but also support them in starting childcare centers. Her program is now full with 24 children, and she’s already looking to expand. Just seven months into running her childcare program, Shari is earning four times what she did in her previous job. The majority of the children attend her program through subsidies from the State of Michigan, and many of the parents work long shifts in local factories. Shari was able to get licensed, launch, and fill her program through the Wonderschool marketplace, and she manages her business using the Wonderschool Child Care Management Solution—all within 5–6 months. None of this would have been possible without the great leadership of Emily Laidlaw, our partner in this work, and the commitment of Governor Whitmer and Lt. Proud Wonderschool moment to share and proud Founder moment to share. In Mississippi, we helped 37 providers get registered or licensed in just one month. That's more than one new program each day, bringing relief to families in a state that’s majority (60%) child care desert. In those 31 days, 37 new programs created 1,032 new child care slots. Please let me say that again—1,032 new child care slots in schools and programs across the state. Child care programs are a lifeline for our communities and thanks to these local entrepreneurs, families are able to secure quality and accessible child care. ?? Thanks to these local entrepreneurs, parents are able to return to work. Thanks to these local entrepreneurs, the local economy is able to benefit from increased productivity, earnings and revenue. ?? Thank you to our Mississippi Wonderschool team and product team for ensuring these programs succeed. ? And especially, thank you to Mississippi’s government leaders for coming together and recognizing the importance of supporting the owners of child care programs. Together, with the right tools and partners, we can continue to chip away at the child care crisis. This is what Wonderschool is all about.

By joining forces, we'll help child care providers combat administrative burnout.
I’m happy to announce a new acquisition at Wonderschool. We are acquiring the substitute teacher platform from Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. This comes on the heels of the EarlyDay acquisition that I announced two weeks ago to support teacher recruitment. This gives us the ability to further our investment in supporting child care providers and program directors in solving one of their biggest needs - a way to find and hire more qualified teachers. The substitute teaching pool has already launched in Mississippi, where we've seen an impressive 20% of providers sign on and received thousands of substitute applications within just a few months.
