?? Reflecting on an incredible second annual Women's World On Wheels (Women's WOW) camp for women wheelchair users at Easterseals' Rocky Mountain Village! ?? This year’s camp was a true team effort, and I’m so grateful for the amazing people who made it all possible. From budgeting with our fantastic Treasurer, Nicole Furman, to securing funding with our dedicated Philanthropy Advisor, Karen J. Crumback, we ensured our programs and activities not only met our mission but also provided unforgettable experiences for our campers. ?? A huge shoutout to: - Mary Velky and Michelle Kephart, who expertly managed the volunteer schedule, keeping everything running smoothly. - Anna Aranda, who was in charge of planning the lodging arrangements, and her family, who never cease to be an incredible support system. - Craig Pollitt, whose extensive experience in both for-profit and nonprofit organizations has been invaluable in shaping my leadership approach, guiding me in effectively leading Women’s WOW toward continued growth and success. - Kelley Fox, who kept operations running effectively, brought in volunteers, and represented our organization with her positive, fun, and contagious energy. ?? Key highlights: - Carefully evaluated all camp programs through camper and volunteer feedback to shape future initiatives. - Drove camp signups with strategic marketing efforts, including powerful stories, testimonials, and engaging content. - Managed all aspects of registration, insurance, and logistics to create a seamless camp experience. - Organized lodging, meals, and activities with Easterseals to ensure cost-effective planning and keep all programs within budget. - Planned the daily schedule and coordinated with staff and volunteers to provide hands-on support at program areas This camp wouldn’t have been possible without our compassionate volunteers and staff who went above and beyond to create lasting memories. Did you know... The fight for fully accessible transportation started right here in Denver significantly shaping disability rights? In July 1978, RTD announced a new fleet of over 250 buses, none of which were wheelchair accessible. In protest of this and the ongoing systemic exclusion of people with disabilities, a courageous group known as the Gang of 19 surrounded and blocked two RTD buses during the morning rush hour, chanting, “We will ride!” The Gang of 19’s voices resonated across the nation, spurring local and national change. These efforts were crucial in leading to the signing of the ADA 12 years later, ensuring rights and accessibility for millions. This Disability Pride Month (and every month) let’s continue to celebrate these trailblazers and their enduring impact on the disability rights movement. We are proud to honor our founder, Barry Rosenberg, who played a significant role in these protests and worked tirelessly to make transportation accessible for all. Barry and the Gang of 19’s efforts laid the foundation for PASCO’s commitment to advocacy. #mondaymotivation Andra Dalzell is the first registered nurse in a wheelchair, overcoming 76 interviews and countless obstacles to land her first nursing position. After earning her degree in nursing Andrea faced challenges securing a nursing job?????? She encountered barriers trying to convince hospitals she could handle nursing duties from her wheelchair. Despite this, she persisted, taking on various roles as health director and case manager in order to make ends meet while pursuing her dream to work as a nurse . Her determination paid off after 76 interviews she was finally hired as New York State’s first wheelchair-using registered nurse. ?????? Beyond her nursing duties, Andrea is a vocal advocate for disability rights. Her platform, “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Access,” aims to empower people with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives ????
