As a 2022 General Operating Grantee, National Domestic Worker's Alliance (NDWA-PA) has demonstrated a strong commitment to empowering domestic workers through policy advocacy, organizing, and narrative change. We are proud to support their recent efforts to develop a bill that enforces worker protections against illegal practices like wage theft and workplace retaliation. These efforts will have a large impact on domestic workers here in Philadelphia, the majority of whom are women of color, by expanding protections that prioritize equity and fairness. Transgender Day of Remembrance is an annual commemoration of trans community members who had their lives taken by acts of anti-trans violence. Now more than ever it is imperative that we offer protection and solidarity to our trans community members. We must continue our fight against bigotry until we create an environment in which Trans people can be seen and heard in a safe manner. Head to https://glaad.org/tdor/ to learn more about the origins of TDOR, and the best way to honor the trans community during this time. #TransLivesMatter

National Philanthropy Day celebrates those who give back to their communities! Charitable donations, community grant-making, and volunteering time/expertise continue to advance our mission of gender equity, and for that, we are forever grateful. Now more than ever, nonprofits fighting for gender equity benefit immensely from these acts of philanthropy. The impact of giving has enabled WOMEN'S WAY to put 28 million dollars to work within the greater Philadelphia region, yet there is still so much work to be done. Looking to increase your philanthropic involvement in the gender equity community? Head to womensway.org/get-involved to find out what fits you best.

“I think we need more people with a lived experience like myself that know how to navigate in the system to prevent people from being incarcerated [just] because we have substance use disorder or a mental health concern.” This quote comes from Monique Taylor in Episode 5 of the "Beyond the Razor Wire Fence" podcast. Monique is a Special Initiatives Outreach worker for Project Home. In this episode, she reflects on her past with substance use and the cyclical relation addiction has with incarceration. Later in this episode, WOMEN'S WAY Chief Strategic Officer, Kelly Sheard, speaks with Carol Thomas, Director of Strategic Initiatives at Project Home, about strategies surrounding how society engages with communities struggling with addiction. Dive deeper into this episode with some help from our listening guide. Our guides offer personalized reflection questions to enhance your listening experience. Check it out at womensway.org/podcast!

History was made in this past election, and Sarah McBride is proudly part of it. This January, she will be sworn in as the first openly transgender member of Congress. She succeeds Lisa Blunt Rochester, who will also make history as Delaware’s first Black woman senator. McBride ran a campaign that took a stand against her opponent's open support of Project 2025. In her victory speech, Sarah said: "While at this moment in America's history, hope sometimes feels hard to come by, we must never forget that we are the beneficiaries of seemingly impossible change." This is more than a historic win; it’s a powerful step forward. We’re proud to see Delaware leading with support for all women and embracing progress in the right direction.
