When the season wraps up, our mentors write a letter (!!) to their coaches about the growth they've seen and reflecting all of the goodness that the coaches may not see in themselves. Just imagine being a teenage coach and receiving this from your mentors. Imagine what you might believe to be possible for yourself.

A good read from Women's Sports Foundation on the leadership skills women learn through playing sports. It's why Women's Coaching Alliance is fielding a study to measure the additive leadership skills that young women who play sports gain through coaching sports. Communication? Adaptability? Earlier this month I attended a Women’s Coaching Alliance’s event. This organization always puts together such an inspiring panel of speakers, Jess Smith President of Golden State Valkyries, Carrie Owen Plietz President of Kaiser Permanente Northern California? and WCA founder Pam Baker, who sought to honor the legacy of her beloved husband, Doug Friedman, who passed away in 2020.? Doug was a firm believer in the power of sports to shape the lives of girls and develop lasting confidence.? But when he went to coach their daughters’ teams, he often found himself asking, "Where are all the women coaches?"? WCA honors him by growing the number of inspiring women coaches and a pipeline of future leaders to close the leadership gap. While female athletes are achieving gender parity on the field, representation in the boardroom and among coaches still lags behind. This is why WCA is our charity of the month.
