I had fun kicking off this inspiring discussion with my colleague Akhona Tshangela who seamlessly moderated this conversation and brought it to life with our amazing panelists: Bhavneet Bharti bhavneetsahul - Who shared inspiring stories and called us to “Heal, serve, and lead." She also shared this beautiful phrase, "Ho?oponopono", a traditional?Hawaiian?practice of?reconciliation?and?forgiveness. I can't stop reading about it! ? Dr Orapeleng Phuswane-Katse who encouraged us to embrace our worth by saying and feeling “I am enough and I belong.”?This is such an important reminder not only that we are enough but that we belong—belong in that position, profession, or group, in that room, and at that table! ? Dr. Lennie B.'s message of strength,?“I’m strong, an overcomer, and it shall be well,”?uplifted our spirits and reminded us of the resilience we each carry despite all the current uncertainties in the world. I needed this courageous optimism. ? Dr. Jacqueline Kitulu, MBS, OGW, MD, MBA, FCMA encouraged us to?“do it afraid, push past imposter syndrome, and lift another woman as you move forward.”?I can't reiterate enough the importance of 'doing it afraid.' Fear, uncertainty, and nerves can be powerful motivators if we don't let these feelings paralyze us. These powerful calls to thought and action will stay with me. Thank you to my colleagues, Annette Kote, Angel Katusya, Whitney Wanderi, and gythan munga for bringing us all together and capturing these reflections which I am sharing.

?? I'm here at a #CSW69 event hosted by the Office of the Women Rights Advisor to the President, in partnership with Kidogo and Data2X, United Nations Foundation where we’re diving into the importance of care work as a pathway to alleviating poverty in Africa. WomenLift Health Global Fellow Lanice C. Williams, M.S., CHES? gave opening remarks and introduced Data 2x’s report on the role of time use data in policy making. Unpaid care work, largely done by women and girls, sustains economies but limits their opportunities. Time use data is vital for addressing these inequalities, informing policies to redistribute care work, reduce women’s workloads, and promote economic growth. Read the Data 2x report here: https://lnkd.in/ePSfp8dq Government representatives of Kenya and South Africa shared their valuable insights on how we can invest in care work to drive economic growth and support gender equality. #CareWork #EconomicEmpowerment #WomenInLeadership #SDGs

Women in STEM belong in every room where innovation, leadership, and progress are shaped, but systemic barriers often hold them back. In a powerful op-ed for Hindustan Times, our India Director, Ayesha Chaudhary, explores how leadership training, mentorship, and male allyship can help bridge the gender gap in India’s STEM ecosystem. Drawing on WomenLift Health data, she highlights the critical need to support mid-career women scientists to ensure they don’t face setbacks that hinder their careers. Sarah L. Bosha, WomenLift Health 2024 North America Global Fellow, highlights a momentous step forward in protecting the rights of people with #Albinism in #Africa. In a groundbreaking ruling, the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights held Tanzania accountable for failing to protect individuals with albinism from widespread #HumanRights violations. In her Daily Maverick op-ed, Sarah underscores how people with albinism not only face deep-rooted discrimination but are also disproportionately affected by #ClimateChange, lacking access to sunscreen, cancer treatment, and preventive care. “When I gave birth to my son, people in the community said I had sinned and that is why I gave birth to a child with albinism,” shared a Zimbabwean mother in an interview conducted by Sarah and her team at the O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law. This ruling marks a pivotal moment in the fight for justice, dignity, and protection for people with albinism across Africa. ?? Read more: https://lnkd.in/dSsger9m ??
