Challenging Power and Privilege For Gender Equity in Health
关于我们
Women in Global Health (WGH) was founded in 2015 when four women in the health sector met on social media outraged that women are the majority in the sector but hold only a minority of global health leadership roles. Today, we are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with 55 Chapters in 51 countries, and over 6,000 members. We are the largest and loudest women-led movement demanding gender equity in leadership, career opportunities, and pay; safe and decent working conditions; and gender equity in universal health coverage and health emergency preparedness and response. We build alliances and our own movement so women in global health will be heard. We are working towards a world that enables women from all regions to be leaders in global health and catalysts for better health for all.

Women in Global Health Australia is taking action to drive change. Their latest perspective, featured in Medical Journal of Australia Insights+, explores how we can revolutionize health systems to empower women in leadership roles. Authored by Rachel Mather, Adeline Tinessia, Dr. Parveen Fathima, Prof. Sara E. Davies , and A/Prof. Meru Sheel, the article highlights critical steps to break barriers and advance gender equality in health leadership. ?? Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gHSi35v5 Key takeaways: ?? Embed gender equality at the core of health policies and initiatives. ?? Recognise the impact of women in leadership, driving better financial, innovative, and societal outcomes. ?? Address the underrepresentation of women—especially from LMICs—in global health leadership. ?? Redefine leadership, celebrate diverse contributions, and foster inclusivity. Despite progress, we are still far from achieving UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality by 2030. The solution? A complete overhaul of our health systems. This #IWD, WGH Australia stands with UN Women Australia’s 2025 theme: #MarchForward. True change requires all of us, not just women, to advocate for gender-equal, inclusive, and diverse health systems that benefit everyone. Will you join us in making this a reality? #InternationalWomensDay #GenderEquality
