Here are some of my goals for 2025 (and beyond ??? ) ?? Attend at least 2?? Women Tech Meetup events around the country this year and sponsor one of them in 2026 (Dasha Shunina, I think we can make this happen right?) ??? Build an incredible website for Cyber Counsel with some help from my friends (Mark Adams and Nathan Winkel) ?? Lean into the legal side of my brain and offer revolutionary #cybersecurity and #privacy legal services around the world ?? ?? ?? Hire a few incredible folks to help me build & grow my vision for Compliance Counsel ?? Interview the founder of #haveibeenpwned Troy Hunt on Socializing Security, get a corporate sponsorship for our #podcast from 1Password, and attend a few events as an influencer with Brian Knudtson (Tagging Qualys, Tech Field Day, Tech Allies for help with this one) ??? Finally, I hope to have my Compliance Counsel logo on a Formula 1 car one day (ideally a Red Bull racing car, specifically Max Verstapen's if I can be picky - Red Bull Racing & Red Bull Technology) This is today's #compliancecounsel https://lnkd.in/g6PuNGvw
I was ? terminated ? for the first time in my career this week. And you know what’s bothering me about it the most? Oddly, the fact that most of my friends, colleagues, and “followers” on social media have no idea that the past few weeks & months at work have been some of the most challenging of my life. I always call this the “Instagram vs reality” effect and that’s why I’m sharing this on LinkedIn today because I think it’s something we don’t talk about enough. My highlight reel may look really great to my followers, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not struggling. Sadly, I know that I’m not alone in this struggle, because I personally know many talented team members, friends, and colleagues who are also struggling. By sharing my story, I’m hopeful that I can help inspire one or two of you to continue to be real and try your best to stay authentic online. I always post about how to #staysafeonline and am going to try my best to continue to #stayauthenticonline ????♀?Here’s what I’m working on to change my situation. As a dual income household, losing my W2 was not on my bingo card for 2025: 1. Be my own boss: I’m finally ready to take the plunge and work for myself. I’ve been managing a “side hustle” for a few years now and I’m ready to be my own boss full-time at Compliance Counsel & Cyber Counsel. How can you help? If we’ve worked together and you know someone who might need #compliance strategy or program help or #cybersecurity and #privacy legal advice. I would love an intro. 2. Reviewing unemployment eligibility: it may be time to rely on the amazing support from my local state workforce commission until my family and I are back on our feet. I live in Texas & feel very grateful for the support from Texas Workforce Commission. Did you know my husband and I have experienced job loss 4x between the 2 of us in the past 2 years? It’s exhausting, but filing for unemployment made it a little less stressful. BTW if there is anyway I can help you or your loved ones navigate filing for #unemployment in Texas or DC, please don’t hesitate to reach out on LinkedIn ??bots, again, not you this time - trying to help friends in my community here through hard times. 3. Reaching out to community: I’ve been shamelessly asking friends, colleagues, advisors, and followers for help. I’m reaching out to new and past connections I’ve met around the world at conferences and events like HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition, Innotech, Austin Technology Council, Women in Technology (WIT), Women in Security and Privacy (WISP), IAPP and many more. I’ve also getting more involved with movements and non-profits I’ve been passionate about like End Workplace Abuse to help #endworkplaceabuse Special shout out to Kimberly Williams & the End Workplace Abuse team for the help the past few months ?? - y’all are the best! 4. Setting goals: I’ll share my goals on my next post ?? I have some big ones for 2025 This is today’s #compliancecounsel

Some say volunteering is about giving back… But sometimes, it’s also a little selfish. Co-leading the content team for the Berkeley Haas Women in Leadership Conference was both! I had the privilege of curating panels and sourcing incredible speakers alongside Bidisa Mukherjee, and I couldn’t have asked for a better co-lead. We designed a lineup of conversations we’d love to watch ourselves… and wow, did these speakers deliver. Here are a few insights from the day: ?? Amy Lokey → Purpose is personal and defined by the unique experiences that shape you. It isn’t a one-time discovery; purpose evolves with you. Align your daily actions with your values, and your purpose will follow. ?? Lori Wright → Dream bigger. What if there were no constraints? Every day, decide which parts of your work deserve an A+ - the rest can be a C or even an F. Know which are the glass balls that can’t fall and which are the rubber balls that can bounce back. ?? Kimberly Bryant → I had the privilege of moderating her fireside chat alongside Bidisa! Check some insights here: https://lnkd.in/gYrWA2Bs ?? Redefining Success Panel (with Patrick Ford, Molly Zeins, Svetlana Kazantseva, Aravinda Seshadri (she/her), Lauren Gellman Farrington) → Success isn’t one-size-fits-all and will evolve with you. Sometimes, it means being fully present for what truly matters; other times, it’s simply keeping the ship afloat. ?? Allyship Panel (with Ani Rouskova, Amy Chou, ACC, CPCC, MBA, Lisha Bell, Dasha Shunina) → Who has your back when you’re not in the room? And in which room can you be that supportive presence? Build a village of mentors, sponsors, and allies - and be that person for others. ?? Conflict Management Workshop (with Breona (Bree) Jenkins and Francesca LeBaron) → Conflict isn’t just about disagreement; it’s an opportunity to deepen connection. Learn to identify and communicate your needs and feelings and avoid making assumptions about the other person; it changes how you approach those crucial conversations. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible speakers for taking the time to share their stories and experiences; we’re always grateful to have inspiring women to look up to! Finally, a huge thank you (and congratulations) to the entire conference team, including our leaders Danica Barhumi and Jennifer Hays. This conference was a massive team effort, and everyone had a positive impact.

Should we go to Texas?
For some of the #HERS I met at HIMSS - I wanted to share the amazing woman I feel like I was talking about all week in Las Vegas. P.S. - Dasha Shunina, I want to help you establish your foothold in #Texas - let me know how I can help you bring your amazing talent to ATX. Organizing the Berkeley Haas Women in Leadership Conference was truly a labor of love, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the best team and my incredible co-chair, Danica Barhumi. As we celebrated International Women’s Day through this event, the biggest takeaway was just how essential it is to have strong women by your side—supporting, uplifting, and turning this vision into reality. A heartfelt thank you to all the amazing speakers, panelists, workshop facilitators, and alumni who contributed to this event. And a huge thank you to the many people behind-the-scenes who made it all possible. This experience has been such a meaningful way for me to give back to the Haas community and a perfect way to close out my final year at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business. I may not be able to capture all of those who contributed to this event, but I will try! ??To Dean Jennifer Chatman for the wonderful intro. ??To our amazing keynote speakers: Amy Lokey, Lori Wright, and Kimberly Bryant. ??To the incredible panelists, workshop facilitators, and moderators: Patrick Ford, Molly Zeins, Svetlana Kazantseva, Aravinda Seshadri (she/her), Lauren Gellman Farrington, Ani Rouskova, Lisha Bell, Amy Chou, ACC, CPCC, MBA,?Dasha Shunina, Francesca LeBaron, and Breona (Bree) Jenkins. ?? To all of our Haas alumni who came back to share their expertise and support the event. ? Lastly, to all the committee members, volunteers, FTMBA staff, and photographers - thank you!! This could not have happened without you.
