Reflecting on an inspiring event! Last month, our club, Women and Sustainability, had the pleasure of co-hosting an enlightening event with Columbia Climate School ?? Our event featured two insightful panels: 1?? Women in Climate Tech & VC: We delved into the pivotal role of women in driving innovation and investment in climate technology, exploring how diverse perspectives are shaping the future of sustainability. 2?? Conscious Capitalism: We explored the intersection of profit and purpose, discussing how businesses can prioritize social and environmental responsibility while driving sustainable growth. The discussions were thought-provoking and empowering, highlighting the importance of collaboration and collective action in tackling climate change and fostering a more sustainable future. We would like to give a huge thanks to our panelists, moderators, and attendees for contributing to such a meaningful dialogue. We're excited to shine the spotlight on Olivia Whitener, a powerhouse member of Women & Sustainability here at Columbia University Olivia is currently in her third semester of the Sustainable Management program, slated to graduate this summer. Her journey into sustainability was sparked by three years of invaluable experience at an early-stage furniture startup. However, Olivia's passion for regenerative food and agriculture has been a guiding force, leading her to pursue further education in this field. Olivia's dedication to sustainability extends far beyond the classroom. With a keen interest in "neglected" crops, food justice, and waste reduction, she is on a mission to make a tangible difference in the world of food systems. Over the summer, she launched Fancy Scraps, a project dedicated to tackling food waste through innovative pop-up dinners. Collaborating with local chefs and producers, Fancy Scraps not only addresses food waste but also fosters community around food, culture, and environmental awareness. As we ramp up for our spring semester programming, we are reflecting on a wonderful close to 2023, when we were joined by 60+ attendees at our Fourth Annual Uplift Summit: Mapping Your Sustainability Career. Thank you to our incredible workshop leader, Jess Storiale -- Career Alignment Coach? of Reflect Your Light, and our inspiring moderators and panelists: Nicole Loher, Estella Struck, Olivia Dell, Max (Mahtab) Moinian, Aditi Desai, Maité Duquela, Somto Uyanna, EIT, Hui Wen Chan, Amanda Baker, Jordan Taylor Sloan, Jezz Chung, and Celine Semaan. And, special thank you to Ethic for welcoming us into your warm space in Tribeca. This event would not have been possible without the tireless work of our fall 2023 professional programming team, Emma Oliver and Edwina Daher. ? Congratulations to our three board members who graduated from the Columbia Master of Science in Sustainability Management program in December: Kristi Muniz, Amy Stanfield, and Kelley Fairman. ?
