Today (August 5th) marks the 36th Anniversary of the release of the ‘Cartwright Report’. We visited the former site of National Women’s Hospital (now the Green Lane Clinical Centre) to give the plaque a spruce up! This plaque was commissioned by Women’s Health Action in 1993, erected by the women of Auckland, in commemoration of the work done by Drs Mclean and McIndoe. We also visited the Statue of Peace to give her a scrub down and to lay some flowers. This inquiry into unethical research practices at National Women’s Hospital and subsequent recommendations in the report was a watershed moment in patient rights, not only in New Zealand but globally.
