This #MotivationalMonday we are sharing the amazing legacy of Nellie Louise Franklin. She made history as the first Black woman on record to graduate from the University of Oregon. Though she faced discrimination during her time at UO, including being denied accommodations in the student dormitories, she finished her music degree within four years, solidifying her status as a historic Oregon first. As we continue to celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth and share the stories of Women Trailblazers of Oregon, today, we are highlighting Letitia Carson. She was one of the first Black woman to settle in Oregon contributing to the state's growth through her farming and activism for civil rights, particularly in fighting against discriminatory laws that sought to exclude Black people from settling in Oregon. Yesterday, we were so excited to join with amazing folks to discuss women in the workforce and celebrating the impactful roles of women in sports. Discussing key topics and the challenges of women in business and sports was powerful. We were especially moved by the meaningful connections that were formed and how these networks can drive change.
