A not-for-profit company bringing diverse women together for collaborative, national action on climate change
关于我们
The 2019–20 summer bushfires promoted a new awareness in the Australian community that climate change is upon us. Filled with grief for the catastrophic losses sustained in the fires, and fear of worse to come if we do not act quickly to prevent further climate change, 45 women met in Canberra over two meetings in January/February 2020. Inspired by the 1915 International Congress of Women, when 1500 women from 12 warring and neutral countries worked together to promote resolution of the conflict through independent mediation and create the conditions for sustainable peace, we discussed how women could lead a nonpartisan movement for united action on climate change. The Women’s Climate Congress has taken these ideas forward with the compelling proposition for women’s leadership to turn the tide of political culture from polarised discord to collaboration and cooperation to restore climate balance by 2030. Our vision is to work through currently deadlocked issues around climate change with genuine multiparty intent to make our planet a safer sustainable home for our children, grandchildren and all life on Earth. We propose that nurture of human life, the natural world and care for the Earth must be at the centre of every government policy decision. We welcome women of all political persuasions, affiliations, ages and walks of life to build our Congress as a strong and generative movement for change. We firmly hold a future-focused, ‘no blame’ philosophy and seek to work together to achieve meaningful climate action. We acknowledge that we have all benefited from the industrial revolution. We are grateful to fossil fuel industries for the wealth and opportunities they have provided. However, listening to the climate scientists, we know that it is now time to transition to different energy sources and to review our lifestyles and custodial duties to future generations and all of life on Earth. Since our formation in February 2020, we have established an organ

Amid the challenging news this week, the work of the women's movement for gender equality, First Nations justice, peace, climate justice, intergenerational equity, and care for all Earth life goes on - bringing some light into the darkness. So WCC is very proud to have been invoved with other national women’s organisations in preparing 'Beijing +30 Australian NGO Report 2024: Working Together for Equality' which was released this week and submitted to the Australian Government. WCC Steering Circle members, Kirsten Anker and Mary Picard, PhD were part of the small team that prepared Chapter 4 on ‘Gender, climate change, disasters and environmental management’. And we are pleased that the report recommendations include a key part of WCC’s advocacy on unified national planning to tackle climate change, proposing that Australian governments need to: ‘Move to a more unified national planning process on climate change adaptation across sectors, at different levels of government, across party lines and with businesses, industries and community leaders that ensures women are in leadership positions at all levels. This is proposed as the most effective way to achieve policy coherence on gender equality and climate change adaptation.’ For further informaton about this report and link to the full text, see: https://lnkd.in/gxRHWjar #womenrising #womenleaders #climatechange #Beijing30 #nationalclimateplanning Women's Environmental Leadership Australia Women and Climate Women's International League for Peace and Freedom - WILPF Zonta International Jared Huntley Robyn James Alice Ridge Dr Donnell Davis Natalie Isaacs Carole Theobald Astrida Upitis

CALL TO ALL WOMEN The?Women’s Climate Congress?invites the women of Australia, in all our diversity, to come together with other women in beautiful Castlemaine in March 2025. Together we will explore how women are leading a national and international paradigm shift to promote more rapid action on climate change based on compassion, kindness, and care for all life on Earth. Part congress and part festival, this event will mix deep conversation based on the urgency for women to continue to challenge the status quo in relation to the current climate change crisis and build our movement to create a major gender focus at COP31 - which is likely to be Australia-Pacific co-hosted. #womenrising #womenleaders #climateaction #climatechange

We, the Peoples, have a right to a safe and just future. As world governments gather at the UN to agree on a new Pact for the Future, leaders must heed the call from people everywhere and end our dangerous dependence on fossil fuels.? Last month, 101 Nobel Laureates asked to keep fossil fuels in the ground:?https://lnkd.in/d82QXPmZ On Friday, we saw a coalition of Mayors and Governors making a similar ask:?https://lnkd.in/dQs7xUYF And just yesterday, we saw parents from around the world calling on our governments to take bold action to end fossil fuels at the UN #SummitOfTheFuture with Our Kids' Climate. I am proud to be one of the signatories:?https://lnkd.in/d2BMzgJz Fossil fuels have exacerbated conflict around the world for decades - now it’s time to build a more peaceful world for our children.
