In this special video, we reflect on 50 years of advocacy and impact with our current and former executive directors, along with Shelley Cline, Executive Director of Saint Paul & Ramsey County Domestic Abuse Intervention Project, who was an advocate with Women's Advocates in the 1980s. Together, they share the journey of Women's Advocates, the nation’s first shelter for victim-survivors of domestic violence, and how we've grown to provide a range of services beyond our historic 24/7 emergency shelter. We need your support to continue offering life-saving services. We’re just $10,435 away from our goal this month—every dollar helps! ?? Welcome to Women’s Advocates, the first domestic violence shelter in the nation.
关于我们
Mission Women’s Advocates walks with victim/survivors and our community to break the cycle of domestic violence. Introduction Women’s Advocates is a safe place where victims/survivors of all backgrounds and cultures can escape domestic violence and begin to heal. We offer shelter, meals, clothing, transportation, personal needs items, counseling, support, advocacy, referrals, crisis phone, and other basic services to women and their children daily. Today, Women’s Advocates provides shelter and services to an average of 50 women and children daily, helps dozens of callers to the crisis line daily, and educates students and professionals about domestic abuse prevention and services. History Women’s Advocates, Inc. was one of the first shelters in the nation for women and children escaping domestic violence. In 1972, a phone crisis line for women seeking divorce or safety was created by volunteers in Saint Paul. Soon after, these women opened the first official shelter for domestic violence victims in a Victorian home on Grand Avenue. Women’s Advocates has since grown to three connected houses with 24/7 staff providing basic needs, advocacy, counseling, and resources. Women’s Advocates has been a national leader for other safety efforts by generating awareness, funding, and programs for abuse survivors and their families.

This National Native American Heritage Month, our Executive Director Holly Henning and Director of Outreach and Youth Engagement Alex McDougall proudly represented Women's Advocates at the Resiliency Through Community Conference at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI. ?? Their presentation, "Disrupting Power and Control: Confronting Human Trafficking and White Supremacy Culture on Turtle Island While Honoring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives," shed light on critical issues impacting Native communities, including human trafficking, housing, and the ongoing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives (MMIWR). For 50 years, Women’s Advocates has been honored to support Native American victim-survivors. We celebrate the resilience of Native communities and remain committed to amplifying these conversations and advocating for change—not just this month, but every day. #NationalNativeAmericanHeritageMonth #MMIWR #HumanTraffickingAwareness
