Last week, Women on the Rise GA participated in the NLADA conference to discuss the harmful implications of SB 63 on cash bail in Georgia. These critical conversations also introduced our #Liberate381: MORE THAN A NUMBER campaign, aimed at transforming parole reform and amplifying the voices of those impacted by systemic injustice. We’re excited for the future partnerships and progress this work will bring. Thank you, NLADA, for creating the space to push for meaningful reform. Together, we can make a difference. #JusticeReform #ParoleReform #Liberate381

Today, we partnered with the Georgia Harm Reduction Coalition for a Narcan training, deepening our commitment to harm reduction. Our team shared personal stories about how criminalization of substance use has impacted both our work and our lives. We believe in responding to substance use with compassion and support, especially as we see our communities facing disproportionate harm. This training equips us with life-saving tools to better serve and uplift each other. Together, we’re fostering a safer, more compassionate community. #HarmReduction #NarcanTraining #CommunityEmpowerment

This past Monday, Dominique and Melodie from Women on the Rise GA had the honor of speaking to Emory’s first- and second-year medical students on the Physician Community Partnership Panel. They shared the impact of our work in advancing healthcare access through community partnerships, focusing on justice-impacted women navigating reentry and health barriers. Their participation was a powerful reminder of how collaborations can shape holistic, equitable care. It’s inspiring to see Dominique and Melodie lead discussions that help future healthcare providers recognize the importance of community-centered approaches. Yesterday, we witnessed a vision become reality. One year ago, our Executive Director Robyn Hasan-Simpson alongside our founder Marilynn Winn and Membership Organizer Melodie Jones took literal sledgehammers to walls at the Atlanta City Detention Center. Why? Because we knew a space like the Center for Diversion and Services could change lives—and yesterday, we cut the ribbon on that transformation. Supported by Fulton County, the City of Atlanta Government, Grady Health, PAD Atlanta, Georgia Justice Project, Women on the Rise, and many other dedicated advocates, the Center is a groundbreaking facility offering services like peer support, showers, and a sobering room, along with vital resources for mental health, housing, and employment. This space reimagines what justice can look like—shifting from punitive measures to care-centered solutions, designed by and for the community. The journey to this moment was powered by a shared commitment to elevate lives and reduce the harm that a traditional justice system can cause. We’re excited to see the Center become a cornerstone of hope and healing in Atlanta.
