A documentary on innovative women of science decarbonizing the built environment while restoring the planet.
关于我们
Told through a feminine lens, the documentary story delves into the minds and spirits of dedicated, driven and dynamic 21st century trailblazers whose work in science is placing them at the core of decarbonization, human health and economic opportunity. Innovative women are redefining our relationship with carbon by repurposing living materials, reengineering waste into valuable chemicals that clean the climate, and driving decarbonization in our built environment. They share life/work challenges while thriving in male-dominated industries.

Climate wisdom - honoring those who honor our planet - such powerful voices #BuildingtheTransition

As we continue to evaluate the outcomes of COP29 together with the rest of our Architecture 2030 delegation, I’d like to reflect on my recent experience at COP in Baku. The event featured outstanding keynote speakers, HRH Princess Dana Firas of Jordan (President of ICOMOS Jordan) and Andrew Potts, as well as insightful panelists who explored the crucial role of culture and heritage in the evolving climate adaptation process. While the language in the official documents may leave much to be desired, conversations like these are key to empowering a bottom-up approach. They strengthen the connection within our culture and heritage community and bring us closer to achieving greater impact in our collective efforts toward just and equitable climate mitigation, implementation, and adaptation, particularly in the built environment. It was a true pleasure to moderate a session with esteemed colleagues Dr. Salma Sabour, PhD, Crystal Felima, PhD, and @Claire McQuire . Together, we explored how climate solutions have traditionally been driven by scientific knowledge. However, we emphasized the importance of incorporating local and indigenous knowledge, or what I like to call “local wisdom,” into our solutions. ?? Climate and culture are inherently about people. It is essential that we listen to, understand, and value local wisdom in our work. Our approach to the built environment must be human-centric—solutions by people, for people. ?? We must honor the past, inform the present, and shape the future of our cities in a way that is sustainable and inclusive. Remember that many of the solutions we are seeking already exist. ?? Ultimately, our efforts in mitigation, implementation, and adaptation must create opportunities, build capacities and capabilities, and foster reciprocity within communities. #Arch2030atCOP29 #COP29 #zerocarbonfuture #SufficiencyByDesign #BuildingTheTransition #NetzerobuiltEnvironment #RegenerativeFuture #Decarbonization

“I imagine a future where there is no such thing as waste… these are the things we’re making possible.” - Jennifer Holmgren A huge thank you to RE:TV on highlighting such an important topic of our era—carbon—and including the work that we’re doing at LanzaTech in that story.
"I imagine a future where there is no such thing as waste." As the most significant of the greenhouse gases that are driving global warming, carbon-dioxide has rightly become a focal point of our efforts to address the climate crisis. But carbon itself is not our enemy. It’s an essential part of life on Earth. What if we could capture carbon emissions and convert them into useful items? Jennifer Holmgren is CEO of LanzaTech – a company that recycles carbon for commercial use. Their process captures waste gases before they reach the atmosphere and uses bacteria to convert them into fuel and chemicals that can then become the basis of everyday products ?? This does not replace the critical and urgent need to reduce global emissions, but it does help us reuse the emissions we capture while making the transition to a sustainable future. ?? Over the next month at RE:TV we're exploring carbon innovations and insights. To learn more about the circular carbon economy, watch the extended interview with Jennifer on our newly launched hub: https://lnkd.in/eUbE26Vi

?? Building up this movement one event at a time while highlighting women and men of carbon, children of carbon, communities of carbon ?????? THANKS FOR HIGHLIGHTING Daniele Horton, CRE?
**Key Takeaways from the *Women of Carbon* Documentary at Greenbuild** The *Women of Carbon* documentary, showcased at #Greenbuild, was a deeply inspiring exploration of how women are driving innovative, sustainable solutions in the fight against climate change. It highlighted the vital intersection of the environment, the built environment, and the unique perspectives women bring to these challenges. I was also so proud to see one of the amazing women that inspires me featured in the documentary! Congratulations Stacy Smedley and all the other incredible women that were featured on the documentary for all the amazing work that you do! You are a true Climate Hero! Here are some key takeaways: ?? **Leadership in a Changing Industry**: Women are reshaping historically male-dominated sectors like construction and steel, championing sustainable materials like mass timber, carbon-negative cement, and bio-based alternatives. Their leadership underscores the transformative power of inclusion in tackling global challenges. ?? **Innovative Solutions for the Planet**: The film explored groundbreaking technologies such as fermentation to create sustainable fuels, electrochemical systems for cement production, and carbon-sequestering building materials. These innovations are redefining what’s possible in the built environment. ?? **Buildings as Climate Solutions**: Speakers emphasized the potential for buildings to not only reduce emissions but also absorb carbon, with concepts like carbon-negative prototypes leading the way. This aligns with Verdani Partners’ mission to drive decarbonization and resilience in real estate. ?? **Empowering Future Generations**: A key message was the importance of educating younger generations about sustainability, instilling hope, and engaging them in community-driven climate solutions. This focus on education reflects the collective responsibility to build a more sustainable future. ?? **Building a Community for Women in Construction**: The documentary highlighted the need for stronger support networks for women in construction, creating spaces for collaboration, mentorship, and shared learning to drive progress. The *Women of Carbon* documentary was a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of humanity and the environment and the urgent need to act on climate solutions. Verdani Partners is proud to be part of this movement, advancing innovation and equity in the built environment! #VerdaniPartners #Greenbuild #WomenInSustainability #CarbonSolutions #SustainableBuilding #ClimateLeadership #WomenInLeadership Lisa Conway Anyeley Hallová Tabitha Stine
