Women+ in Technology of Charlotte

I have so many words and yet am at such a loss for words at the same time. As I spent the last couple of days in NYC and launched the Women+ in Technology of New Jersey & NY chapters tonight, my mind is once again blown. What started as an idea for something I wanted to be part of, has released across our nation. Launching new chapters and watching them bring #changeandimpact to their communities is what this is all about. Creating more space for women, digging into the data and using that to propel is to truly drive change is what this is all about. Congratulations to Heather Johnson, Mythili Madhira and your incredible leadership team on your launch tonight. I'm so proud of the hard work you've put in and all to come for you all. Thank you McKinsey & Company for hosting the event and for the panel on The Broken Rung. Here are a few data points from that session: ??We are seeing progress, but we start losing it at first promotion to manager. This leads to the falling off as they continue to move up- Luisa Armstrong ??Diversity is not a human feel good issue, it actually leads to better business outcomes ??More diversity =better performance Jan Shelly Brown (JSB) ??It's 50/50 when women enter the workforce. Women have more degrees, but it continues to drop off as we move up. ??12% bump at c-suite, but most are staff roles, vs profit or business units ??The broken rung is at the manager entry level ??We are 100 years from reaching parity. We must Accelerate Action to move these #s ??Most of what you will need to do this is the experience you receive We must take control of understanding our business ??Be able to explain the value of what we bring ??Being able to hone our craft so we are credible and have expertise we are bringing ??We understand the technology, but do we understand the business ??How do you build experience capital? 1- build experiences that matter. Choose a company, not just a job. 2-Make BIG BOLD moves. Challenge yourself to get uncomfortable. 3-The Power Alley. PNL and leadership roles. 4-Go where the jobs are. Let this guide your career compass. ??This is not an ambition problem. There is a risk aversion piece in play.
