It is a systemic failure of our housing system that is putting our kids’ futures at risk. 94% of students experiencing homelessness in NYC are Black or Hispanic. Kids in shelter have high rates of chronic absenteeism, are less likely to graduate high school, and face a higher risk of homelessness as adults. Childhood homelessness has lasting inequitable impacts. That's why we need policies that support families' pathways into stable housing and students' success in school.
