  • Purnima Barman, one of our most prolific members and the chapter lead of WiNN India - Assam, was recently honored as one of Time Magazine’s 2025 Women of the Year! ?? Purnima shares this prestigious honor with 12 other remarkable women who are fighting for various causes, such as girls' rights (Gambia’s Fatou Baldeh), survivor’s rights (France’s Gisèlle Pelicot), equity in sports and the arts (A’ja Wilson, Jordan Chiles, and Nicole Kidman), and access to better healthcare for women (Amanda Zurawski and Olivia Munn). In describing the process for selecting this year’s honorees, TIME shared the following: “When we sit down to think about the Women of the Year each winter, we ask ourselves the same question: What are the most significant issues facing women and girls around the world right now? Challenges are abundant, from gender-based violence and attacks on women’s rights to the dangers of a volatile climate. But everywhere those threats can be found, so too can leaders pushing for change. The 13 women on this year’s list are all, in their own way, working toward creating a better, more equitable world.” ?? We are incredibly grateful for the work Purnima has done to save the endangered Greater Adjutant Stork while creating opportunities for thousands of women in India, and we’re proud to have her as a member of our network!??? ??
