I had the privilege of attending Dr. Kuwaiti's Cyber Security Council UAE and Dr. Reem Faraj AlShammari Irene Corpuz insightful talk on the critical role of women in cybersecurity. Initiatives like Cybershe and women retreats are transforming the landscape, providing vital support and mentorship. Dr. Kuwaiti emphasized the importance of creating a strong safe network for women in virtual space (cyber protection). These programs not only foster professional growth but also build confidence and resilience. Mentorship is key, allowing seasoned professionals to guide the next generation. Together, we can break barriers and inspire more women to pursue careers in cybersecurity. Let’s continue to support each other and drive change in this essential field! Day 4 at GITEX: A Turning Point Much like in basketball, the days where you feel exhausted but still push yourself tend to be the most transformative. This was one of those days. My social meter was running low after so much pitching, networking, and trying to get opportunities to enter the industry, but I had one last mission: to meet Diane M. Janosek, PhD, JD an alum of Capitol Technology University who has inspired me from afar. What I didn’t expect was the transformative experience that awaited me at the CISO Lounge. I was invited into a space dedicated to women in cybersecurity, and I found myself one of only a few men in a room filled with some of the most inspiring and forward-thinking professionals in the field. It was a reminder of the impactful women who have shaped my life; my mother, aunt, professor, and my wife. Ironically, my wife has been contemplating a transition from aviation to cybersecurity, and this moment felt like perfect timing. I was inspired by the women in that room, from Heide Young, Dr. Reem Faraj AlShammari, Irene Corpuz, to Dr. Janosek, all of whom are committed to growth, balance, and helping the next generation. The conversations were centered on collaboration and empowerment, unlike any other I’ve experienced. I left with renewed clarity, comfort, and validation in my pursuit of cybersecurity. In a separate post, I’ll reflect more on my conversation with Dr. Janosek, but for now, I want to highlight the incredible women I met and their impact on me. They have an ally in me, and I’m excited for how they will help my wife in her journey as well. Thank you to all who made this day unforgettable. I had such an amazing time on the last day of GITEX, especially attending the talk with Dr. Reem Faraj AlShammari, Irene Corpuz and Heide Young, the amazing co-founders of Women in Cyber Security Middle East. One of the highlights was hearing from H.E. Dr. Mohamed Alkuwaiti who spoke passionately about the importance of empowering women in cybersecurity. It was motivating to hear how dedicated he is to fostering an inclusive cybersecurity community that encourages women to thrive. I also had the pleasure of meeting many amazing WISCME members and building great connections. This journey wouldn’t have been the same without WISCME, and I can’t wait to participate in future initiatives with them!
