Accelerating Equity for Women in Data & AI

关于我们

The Bay Area Chapter of Women in Big Data (WiBD) is where our global movement began in 2015. What started with 15 visionary members in San Francisco has become the cornerstone of a worldwide community advancing women in data and AI careers. As the founding chapter, we've helped shape WiBD's evolution from a grassroots initiative to a thriving non-profit organization that now spans six continents. Our Bay Area community remains at the forefront of innovation, leveraging Silicon Valley's unique ecosystem to create tangible opportunities for women in big data and AI. We focus on unlocking potential through mentorship, professional development, and strategic partnerships with leading tech companies in our region. From hosting cutting-edge technical workshops to facilitating meaningful connections with industry leaders, we're committed to advancing diversity in the data science field. As the original WiBD chapter, we continue to champion our core mission: inspiring the next generation of data leaders, connecting talented professionals, and empowering equity allies of any gender. We recognize that big data and AI are transforming every industry, and we believe that diverse perspectives—particularly from women practitioners and leaders—are crucial to shaping an equitable and innovative future in technology. Join our dynamic Bay Area community and be part of a movement that's redefining the future of big data and AI, one connection at a time

?? Demonstrating Strategic Thinking: A Transformative Workshop with Rackspace Technology ?? Last January, the Women in Big Data Bay Area Chapter hosted an insightful Strategic Learning for Extraordinary Results workshop at Rackspace. With a warm welcome from our host ?Madhavi Rajan, we enjoyed a cozy, engaging evening despite the rainy weather. ?? Key Highlights: - Bernhard Ries and Elisa Johnson, ICF ACC from PBJ People Consulting & Coaching? inspired us with a powerful framework: define aspirations, explore options, and activate strategies. - We experienced hands-on peer coaching, practicing active listening and reflecting on our aspirations. - A key insight: Strategy is an evolving process that requires curiosity, adaptability, and input from others to truly thrive. ?? This workshop was a reminder that strategic thinking isn’t just for boardrooms—it’s for our personal lives too. From balancing family and work to defining our aspirations, the tools we explored are transformative in any context. As someone who has been on the job hunt for 6 months, I often get asked how I stay resilient. Here are my top 5 secrets (no surprise they involve some cognitive hacking ??): 1. I Write the Kind Story ?? Rejection stings, but I always pause and ask: “Wait, what’s the kind story?” Instead of: “I got rejected after an interview.” → Someone saw my potential, got excited, and took time to connect with me. Instead of: “I must be a backup hire because the company said they can’t hire me for 6 months.” → I’m a top choice for a company that’s navigating tough times but believes in me enough to stay in touch. Reframing the job search with kindness keeps me persistent and optimistic. 2. I Let Myself Get a Little Delusional ?????? When I apply for jobs or get an interview call, I let myself dream—visualizing tough interviews, exciting offers, and my first day at the company. This normalizes success in my brain, so when I show up, I’m cool, confident, and collected ready to tackle the interview. 3. I Stay Consistent ???? Much like fitness, the job hunt is about showing up daily. I work on LeetCode, system design, projects, resumes, and cover letters—because persistence opens doors. As Calvin Coolidge said: "Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent won’t. Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent." 4. I Protect My Peace ?? Layoffs, hiring freezes, bad news—it’s easy to spiral on social media newsfeeds. It’s important to know when to stop scrolling.? Yes, staying informed matters, but obsessing over bad headlines won’t help me land a job. Lock In. Focus forward. 5. I Have Faith & Patience ?? Think of yourself like a succulent. ?? You don’t yell at a plant for taking time to grow. You water it, give it sunlight, and trust the process. Same goes for your career. Growth takes time, and the right opportunity is growing toward you too. What are your favorite ways to stay resilient? Drop them below! ??? #JobSearch #CareerGrowth #Resilience #MindsetMatters #GrowthMindset #CareerResilience #WomenInTech
