???? Highlights from World Oceans Day Summit 2024! ?? ?? The World Oceans Day Summit hosted by Women and Climate brought together diverse women leaders to highlight actionable solutions for ocean conservation and climate resilience. Here's a quote from Jessie Turner: ?? “So the ocean has absorbed 93% of excess heat caused by greenhouse gas emissions. And the combination of the heat and acidification has also contributed to oxygen loss and slow down of our currents. And that has caused real significant impacts to the things that we've been talking about today, which are fisheries and culture, food security, food security economies and livelihoods and cultural practices and traditions.” - Jessie Turner ?? Jessie is the Executive Director of the International Alliance to Combat Ocean Acidification (OA Alliance) and we were honored to have her as our Speaker at the summit. Women Rise For All was a powerful convening at #CSW69 Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was established in 1946 and is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality, the rights and the empowerment of women by UN Women Thank you Annemarie Hou for bringing together women from around the world, highlighting incredible leaders and the action we need to take to move the needle forward on gender equality. Shoutout to Esra Sergi Bertani for all the behind the scenes work. So many amazing speakers in the room, a few highlights for me: ?? Amina J. Mohammed,?Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations ? ?? H.E. Halla Tomasdottir,?President of Iceland ?? Jessica Sibley, Chief Executive Officer of TIME ?? Charitie R.,?Indigenous Scientist, Water Engineer & Activist ?? Renata Koch Alvarenga, Founder and Executive Director of EmpoderaClima ?? Shyla Raghav,?Chief Climate Officer of TIME Attending the event with Women and Climate Board Members Stephanie Korbely and Ellen Rutherford, Advisor Emilie McGlone, and friends from around the world Dr Anino Emuwa, Melissa Dusenberry and many more was the cherry on top. It was excellent to attend Women Rise for All at the United Nations yesterday with fellow Women and Climate board members Michelle Li and Stephanie Korbely. When asked what was keeping her up at night, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina J. Mohammed, shared that the world seems to have lost its moral compass which I think hits the nail on the head. In answer to what we can do about that, the hugely impressive H.E. Halla Tómasdóttir, President of Iceland, said that we need to have courage, find moments of joy and have solidarity because nobody can do anything alone. I loved that summary and it will be something I try to remember as we navigate the months ahead. Thank you to all involved for an excellent event.

If you’re an aspiring climate professional, new to the climate space, or a seasoned professional, let’s connect (and collaborate ??). And watch this space for upcoming Women and Climate Paris meetups. A huge shoutout to Michelle Li and Stephanie Korbely for fostering such a wonderful and supportive community. Let’s work toward a greater representation of women and non-binary professionals in the climate space. I’m a huge proponent of sparking conversations on important climate topics - something I explore in Climate Conversations with Divya: the *what* and the *how much* of it all - helping people to focus on the topics to care about. And now, thanks to my time with Women and Climate, I’ll be making an extra effort on the side to ensure diverse voices are heard in this space. (Might not succeed every time, but hey, effort matters) Allez Paris! P.S. if this resonates with you, feel free to drop me a message!
