With nearly 135 years of building excellence, let’s remember this classic Wohlsen build right in our backyard, for the Hamilton Watch Company. Our founder, Herman F. Wohlsen, constructed a massive 13-acre complex for the Hamilton Watch Company in the 900 block of Columbia Avenue. Though the factory closed in 1969 when manufacturing moved to Switzerland, this building still stands and continues to serve the Lancaster community today as the Clock Towers apartments. Did you know that Wohlsen built the Mulberry Art Studios, a bustling creative studio and event space in Downtown Lancaster? First, let’s explore the origin of this location! Our founder, Herman F. Wohlsen, built a residence and storefront at 255 W. King Street (inset), with a baking facility in the rear. These buildings were constructed for local baker Christian Gunzenhauser, who brought his business back to Lancaster at the start of the 1900s. This historic building still stands today!
