We love having talented interns join our team every summer, like Jan-Pierre Guzman! Last week I finished my summer internship with Wohlsen Construction Company. I had the pleasure of working on a 16-month renovation project at Sunrise Senior Living in Columbia, MD. I got my first insight on what it’s like working with a general contractor and this internship confirmed that this is the industry that I want a career in. Some of the things that I was responsible for at my internship were creating RFI’s, opening and closing punch list items for phase two, safety inspections, writing meeting minutes, writing our weekly report, preparing for closeout, and coordination with subcontractors. I enjoyed being on the field of my project learning about different trades and being the communication method for those subcontractors who didn’t speak much English. Having a Spanish background helped me communicate questions and concerns more effectively. Special shout out to Kristopher Shea, P.E. , Steven Sarvo , & Lisa Murray for being amazing mentors and providing me with answers to any questions I had. Thank you Wohlsen Construction Company for the opportunity to be an intern and give me my first insight on what it’s like working as a general contractor.
