The Authority initiates and funds housing, economic, transportation, neighborhood, and green space development by providing grants to residential and commercial real estate developers and retail businesses participating in the revitalization of W. North Ave. through acquisition, construction, and repurposing of vacant and blighted properties for eco-friendly urban renewal without displacement while supporting community-based public safety measures.

BE BOLD TOGETHER is this year’s theme for the 25th Anniversary Conference of The Funders Network held in Baltimore, MD.?It is a call to embrace courageous action and meaningful collaboration that helps unlock environmental, economic, and racial justice. WNADA's team joined grant makers, representing many organizations and foundations from across the country and shared the comprehensive strategies and discussions happening to build a better future for West Baltimore. We participated in the mobile workshop “Anchors of Change: How HBCUs Are Driving Community Transformation” which started with a tour of W. North Avenue, followed by a presentation from State of Maryland’s West North Avenue Development Authority, Coppin State University, COPPIN HEIGHTS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION and the Neighborhood Housing Services of Baltimore.

Today, the State of Maryland's West North Avenue Development Authority joined advocates and supporters of the arts and culture at the Pennsylvania Avenue branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library & Maryland State Library Resource Center . The talk was innovative and educational, raising awareness of the importance of developing a vibrant ecosystem of green space, commerce, arts and culture along the West North Avenue corridor. The conversation included suggestions about integrating the arts in community development, enhancing public spaces through art, supporting local arts, culture, and heritage, and increasing urban tree canopy and reforestation, among many other topics. #westbaltimore #baltimorecity #artsandculture #westnorthavenue

Yesterday, WNADA hosted David A. Zaidain and @Alex Walinskas from the Maryland Department of Transportation's Office of Real Estate Development (MDOT ORED) for a transit-oriented development tour of three metro stations in WNADA's footprint, Mondawmin, Penn North and Upton. We explored the untapped development potential of these areas including SMART intersection technology, and traffic calming.
