Employee Spotlight: Harry Cline, Safety Coordinator ? Q: When did you start with WL Plastics & what is your role??? I started on January 29th, 2018. WL had already been purchased by INEOS at that time. I got here as we were starting to roll out all the INEOS programs.?I’m the safety coordinator. I started here as a safety coordinator and have moved up to Safety Coordinator 3. I also obtained the ASP certification as a safety professional in 2020 from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals while I’ve been here.?? ?? Q: What's your background???? Currently, I'm 12 credit hours away from finishing my bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health management. I have my associate's degree in it already. Prior to that, I was in law enforcement. I’m a retired deputy sheriff for the county here. Prior to that, I was in the military for 16 years where I served as a flight engineer on Chinook Helicopters. I like to joke that after my previous jobs, I was trying to figure out what else I could do to make people hate me. So, I got into safety!??? ?? ? Q: What's your most memorable moment or accomplishment??? My first accomplishment here was getting the right equipment for employees to do the task of removing and moving finished coils safely with a forklift. I had just started my position with WL Plastics and was observing the removal and transport of finished coils in the production area. I noticed the attachment being used as a standard carpet pole which was flexing. I looked up the carpet poles being used and found they were not rated for the weight they were lifting and moving.? I then did the research on the type of coil ram required to complete this task safely and got in touch with the vendors for the coil rams and forklift manufacturers. Working with them, we were able to obtain the needed coil rams and forklift data plates for their use safe use.?? ? Q: Is there anything else you want to tell us about???? WL Plastics has come a long way in the area of safety since I came on board, and it has been a great experience to be part of this. I’ve watched WL Plastics grow in the area of safety from each plant running pretty much independently to the safety team working together and sharing best practices with each other. We still have some refinement to do in this area, but it has come a long way in the last five years.???? The WL Plastics management, both at the corporate and plant levels, provides encouragement and assistance to not only myself but to every other employee who strives for further education to better themselves in their position. They also view and treat me as a member of the team, as an asset to the team, and I strive to live up to that for them and treat them with the same respect.??
