Next week marks six months since Helene. On Tuesday, I travelled to Raleigh to speak with Governor Josh Stein about the continuing recovery efforts in WNC. I’ll share our conversation next week.

The Black Mountain YMCA is officially reopen! Thank you WLOS ABC 13 for stopping by our open house. A MAJOR shout out to our local remediation team that worked tirelessly to repair the facility in time to reopen before those resolutions are put in place.

I don't have the words to describe this past week; Helene decimated the place I call home. I still am having trouble comprehending the loss of life, livelihood and property. Today is the first day I've had time to think since the rivers rose and the trees fell; my heart is heavy. I've been told it will take years for some areas to completely recover, some never will. We travelled to some of those places, intentionally. We were told by one person these are "the places the news won't go." We did. The people in Yancey and Mitchell County are simply amazing. Many of them are still cut off digitally, but they wanted the world to know what happened to their home and that they have no plans to sit around doing nothing. Chronologically, across four days earlier this week, these are their stories of rebuilding amongst tragedy, community and hope. https://lnkd.in/e54VWu8f
