Catherine-Ann LaRoche, Ed.D., Assistant Vice President for Student Engagement and Executive Director for Housing & Residence Life?won the Association of Intermountain Housing Officers Outstanding?(AIMHO) Service Award?at their?Annual Conference?hosted in Albuquerque, New Mexico, held November 12-14, 2024. The conference was AIMHO's 70th annual conference event.?AIMHO?is?a regional affiliate of the?Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I). The Outstanding Service Award is designed to recognize years of service,?dedication?and significant contributions to students in the residence halls and the residential community. All staff levels (custodial, clerical, professional, etc.) were?considered.? Prior to arriving at Western Kentucky University?in July 2023, Dr. LaRoche served as the?Assistant Dean of Students at Arizona State University.?She?has?served in various leadership roles in AIMO, including President, President-Elect, and Past President.? Dr. LaRoche?is a strong advocate for staff, fostering environments where professionals and students can thrive. Her supportive approach, rooted in empathy and empowerment, inspires her colleagues to pursue leadership opportunities confidently. The Association of Intermountain Housing Officers?works for the continual improvement and coordination of housing and food service operations for students and staff members in institutions of higher learning. Western Kentucky University Housing & Residence Life received the first place ACUHO-I Marketing Award for Best Poster during the annual ACUHO-I Business Operations Conference, hosted on October 28-31, 2024 in Bethesda, Maryland. The poster, designed by Katie Corbin, Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications for WKU Housing & Residence Life, highlighted the “South Lawn Til Dawn” event that took place on October 26, 2023 on WKU’s campus. The event featured lawn games, recreational sports, fire pits and s’mores, competitions, prizes, stand-up comedy, and the opportunity to camp outside in a tent on the University’s South Lawn. The event was a collaboration between the departments of Housing and Residence Life and Campus Recreation and Wellness. Katie Corbin received her BFA in Graphic Design from Western Kentucky University in 2009. The ACUHO-I Marketing Awards recognize the creative and vital work done to communicate campus housing programs and initiatives. Established in 2016, these awards acknowledge all ACUHO-I members and their departments for their accomplishments and creativity. The Director for Budget and Financial Reporting is responsible for managing the financial operations of a comprehensive housing program consisting of 15 residence halls and 2 apartment complexes with a capacity of 5,300 students. This role will oversee all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and compliance requirements. The position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Student Engagement. Doug Tate,?Western Kentucky University Housing & Residence Life?Assistant Director of Housing Administration,?won the?StarRez?PortalX?Competition?for the second year in a row?at the StarRez Global Connect Conference in?Anaheim,?California, held July?28-30, 2024.?The conference hosted?nearly?1,000?participants.? Tate?was chosen to?compete against three other individuals?from Clemson, Stanford, and Yale. Western Kentucky University won the competition with a?presentation showcasing the?move-in timeslot selection system?Doug?built from scratch within the?WKU?Housing Portal?using the StarRez software. The Assistant Director won the same competition in 2023?with his presentation showcasing the Student Staff Resource Page he created.?The resource page provides tools that streamline the work of WKU students and staff.? StarRez is a student housing software platform designed to create thriving residential communities. Western Kentucky University Housing & Residence Life is hiring an Assistant Director for Student Behavior and Conduct. This role is primarily responsible for providing leadership in areas related to student behavior and specifically student conduct for the residential system. Additionally, the AD assists in the overall leadership of a comprehensive 5,500 bed housing program and directly supervises two full-time professional staff who oversee the daily operation of the residence halls.
