Seventeen years ago today, I became a #mom (HBD, Carter ??). And while becoming a parent was one of the most life-changing experiences, there was one thing that was even harder:
figuring out how to stay in the workforce during the early years of parenting.
When I went back to work:
- I didn’t have company-provided leave. I was back after just 12 weeks.
- There was nowhere to pump; the only option was the shared bathroom sitting on a toilet.
- There was no flexibility in my schedule.
- No one at work knew how to support me.
It was, without a doubt, the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I cried every day. My marriage was strained, and I was barely surviving.
